It's Back!

Postby NJMarilyn » Mon Oct 14, 2013 8:18 pm

Briefly, I took Levaquin the end of March. By mid-April I knew something was wrong but didn't get tested until May for c-diff and the test was negative. June 14th I tested positive for c-diff and started Vancomycin for only a week. Symptoms came back immediately and then started on Flagyl. I was allergic to Flagyl. July 2nd, tested negative. July 30th c-diff positive and treated with Vancomycin for one month. October 8th I again tested positive for c-diff. I am feeling frustrated as well as overwelmed and feel sick because of the c-diff. I have an appointment with an infectious disease specialist next week. Looking for suggestions to see what has worked for others. Not sure if it would be wise to try to taper and pulse Vancomysin or start Dificid. And, of course, I don't know what the doctor will suggest. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated. Thank you.

I am so sorry you are continuing to relapse. It takes many people several rounds of treatment to get this cleared up. I know how frustrating it is for you. I relapsed over and over for 4 1/2 years. I took Vancomcin for long tapers...12 weeks. I finally took Dificid in July of 2011 and have been relatively healthy since then.
Talk it over with your doctor. C-diff affects everyone differently . It seems like we all respond to different treatments so you and your doctor will have to discuss your options. Many doctors are doing FMT's with lots of success. Dificid is expensive..$3500 for 20 pills. Check with your insurance. Mine covered all but $42.
Good luck. Hang in there and keep us posted. You will get well...it just takes time.

Awww I feel for you friend. I am not far behind you as I submitted another test because of pesky D. I hop that yor MD can guide you in the proper treatment. I'm always on eggshells when I submit a sample. My last positive result blind sighted me. Don't let this get you down. Sending prayers Wen
