Dificid side effects?

Postby ncmimi4 » Mon Oct 14, 2013 10:34 am

Started having problems and Dr. did another sigmoidoscopy Wed. In 3 hours they called that c diff was positive and started me on Dificid again. I don't see him for two days. I took Dificid before (after 2 rounds of Vancomycin) and had no problems with it but now I cannot leave the house because of extreme D. I saw mention on here about others having side effects taking it and wonder what they were. Thank heaven for the foundation in Fl (Dificid assist) that has shipped me the drug twice for a very low co-pay. Have been dealing with this since March and would feel very sorry for myself if it were not for all the people who have such good attitudes on here. Going to talk about a FT at the DR.

I also got D when I took Dificid. Gas was another side effect I had. I just felt terrible the whole time I took it but most say they had no side effects so I just wonder if it was just the Cdiff that was making me feel so sick. I'm sorry you have relapsed on it. I took it over 19 months ago and so far so good for me but still am not back to normal. I would ask the Dr. for Questran or Pepto to help with the D also ask him about Gas X if you have that. Hope you do better on it the more you take it. Forgot to say, if you are having severe D you need to call the dr. now and not wait until Wed. Good luck. Carol

No, please don't feel like a pest. Were you able to reach your doctor to discuss your symptoms?

You aren't a pest - you are a patient and you and your insurance company are your doctors' livelihood. Be polite, persistent, and professional but call!

Thank you all, I have been feeling defeated but you perked me up. I called the Dr. Having blood work done this am. Will see him tomorrow. Did the BRAT diet and am feeling a little better. Does anyone know a good GI or ID specialist in the Orlando Fl area?

Check out the Doctors Forum. It lists the doctors people on this site have used and recommend. Also, check the FT Foundation Site - listed in Gen. Dis. and in the Links Forum - last one listed.

I agree with Roy, but I don't want to even be called a customer. We should be "clients." And we all feel sorry for ourselves - you are not alone. The best way to beat C. diff., however, is to try and live as normal a life as possible. It's already robbed you of precious time - don't let it steal anything more.

The things that got me through C. diff. best were exercise and a heating pad.

Keep us posted.

Saw the Dr. He wants me to continue the Dificid for 10 more days at 2 a day and then 1 a day for 10 days and then 1 every other day until they are gone. That will be 30 more days. When I got the prescription from Dificid assist in Fl they told me that lots of Dr.s are trying this approach. The company that makes it is gathering info. on how many Drs. are using this method. They will only help with the cost of the drug for 3 times but their co- pay for the 4th batch is affordable. I have to wait until next week to get the 4th batch. Somewhere on here someone wondered about a Dificid taper. Wish I could get this information to them. If that does not work I will get the FT.

I hadn't heard about them using Dificid for tapers. Its so new and expensive I guess thats why. Hope this does it for you. Dificid is what finally got rid of my CDiff and I'm so thankful for it. I only had to take it once though. Good luck and keep us posted as to how you do. Carol
