Major milestone for FT
There are probably hundreds of articles in major newspapers across the country today, due to the first evidence-based results of FT treatment having been reported in the current issue of the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), the world's most prestigious medical journal. I've posted a couple in Media Reports, along with a link to the NEJM piece. This is very likely to be a major milestone for acceptance of FT in the medical community, and hopefully by FDA and insurers as well.
If your illness was preceded by use of a medication, e.g., an antibiotic, please fill out an FDA Adverse Event Report at http://www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/default.htm

Lets hope it happens soon and they could save thousands of people so much pain and sickness by making this a first line treatment instead of the last resort.

Yes, but then the pharmecuetical companies can't make their money!! We have to poison our systems even further with MORE antibiotics before we can do FT's. We shouldn't have to be deathly ill before we can get an FT. But again, there's no money to be made from them so no one is going to suggest them right away. It's so sickening how greed comes before our health.

They are trying to put the strains in the FT into a capsule form that is processed. I bet the pharmaceutical companies would jump at the chance to market that and probably will charge a fortune for it as well. Did anyone post that article? If not, I will find it again and post it. Basically, it is the same idea as the RePOOpulate formula, but it was someone else who wanted to do this - can't remember who.

The big pharma companies still can make justified money if they will develop this products:
1. the needed collection of specific bacterial species, with the diversity needed at the species level. And it is still unknown which bacteria are needed.
(it is definitely not the lactobacillus and bifidubacterium in regular probiotics).
2. they will supply a high-tech technology to keep this bacteria alive.
And it is not simple, because most of these bacteria re anaerobic, and even can't be cultured in a lab, and only by genetic sequencing you know they are there.
Maybe the preparation will be delivered around the world in a frozen format, and then immediately before the patient use it, it will go through controlled sophisticated defreezing process
3. they will make all the genetic sequencing screening tests, to rule out any infectious risks in this preparation.

beth22: See "Synthetic Stool Stymies Stubborn C. Difficile" piece in Media Reports, as well as noga's links.
