What is up with my muscles?

Postby arose » Sat Feb 18, 2012 6:51 pm

Hey everyone!

Hope everyone's doing well.

I've been c diff symptom free for about a week (hooray!) but I still have weird muscle pains/spasms. My neck in particular has been really stiff/sore (I still have that pesky lump feeling in my throat). I also have weird spasm like pains in my armpits occasionally and soreness there that comes and goes.

I have tested positive for c diff though I lack symptoms - not on antibiotics because of it! YAY. I'm still taking Florastor once a day.

I'm wondering if anyone had these aches and pains while they had c diff? I went to the hospital for a neck x ray a couple days ago and they didn't see anything abnormal.

Thanks.

I have these same symptoms as well in my neck and in my arms and hands. It started with me when I tested positive for campylobacter, but that cleared. I know toxins can do this, but so can some vitamin deficiencies and with c diff many of us have malabsorption issues. Have you had your calcium, vitamin D, B6, B12 and folic acid levels checked?

I had a blood test recently where my doctor checked for deficiencies as well as muscle enzymes. Nothing came up. I'm assuming it might have something to do with the infection, or PI-IBS? No idea.

When I saw a SIBO specialist in 2009 he told me that many people with SIBO have fibromyalgia. At that time I did not, but I sure do now. I don't know if it has to do with the toxins that the various bacteria produce, including c diff, or the permeability of the small intestine. I read some articles about "leaky gut syndrome" where this can happen. IAccording to what I read, if the intestine is permeable, it lets in stuff that it shouldn't into your bloodstream and it can cause allergies, reactions in joints and muscles, etc. You might want to ask your doctor about that or read about it online. There are various methods of treating it - some with diet, some with supplements and some with antibiotics like Xifaxan. I don't want to take the Xifaxan. L-glutamine is supposed to help heal, but so are other things like probiotics and colostrum. Some people who have had c diff, developed reactive arthritis from it as well.

Wow, Beth, I just looked up Fibromyalgia and I fit the exact description of it. It even mentions, in a Wikipedia article (okay, I'm a university student, I know Wikipedia sucks as a source but I take what I can get) that people who have Fibromyaglia can have trouble swallowing. This is what I have been dealing with, as well as a wide variety of body soreness and shooting pains.

Thank you so much.

I'll speak to my ID specialist about that possibility.

Hi! I’m not sure if you are still active on this site, but I came across your post and you are the only person that I have seen that has the same pain as me. I was completely healthy before a month ago. If you ever get this message I’d appreciate any feedback that you have done for this pain or how you got through it. My doctors put me on anxiety medication but I know I’m not creating this in my head. I hope this message finds you well!
