Really Confused... Please Help!

Postby pwood62 » Thu Mar 18, 2010 7:47 pm

Hi all, I have been told by my GI after scope and 4 tests that I am C-Diff clear since January 20th yet I continue to have symptoms. Bad D in the mornings, burning pain in side, and bad gas pains. I went to Family Dr. on Monday and she said try some Metamucil and seemed to agree with GI (although she did order another lab test for C-Diff) and said try some Metamucil and see if that would kind of bind everything up so I did and yesterday pretty good. Last night not so good and this morning everything went south. I really don't feel like when I had C-Diff but I definitely feel bad most days. Is it possible that it is taking almost 2 months to heal? I mean I did have it for almost 6 months. I am just so confused! I don't know what in the heck is wrong with me. I rarely feel good anymore. Could there be something else going on? The Gi put me on 2 weeks of Flagy for suspected SIBO but I wimped out on day 11 because it was making me so sick. Please I need some insight. Thanks everyone.

It sounds like what I have and had post c diff last year for months and months. I took Xifaxan. It helped some, but not completely. I developed a lot of food intolerances - small intestine issues do that. SIBO is really hard to get rid of - there are supposedly special diets, which I haven't tried. One specialist I saw suggested drinking some nutritinal food for two or three weeks - only that and water, but with my weight loss that didn't seem like a good idea. I did find that after my last two relapses, I took a Xifaxan chaser and I felt better after that. This last relapse I only took vanco and then had a stool transfer. Maybe I should have taken the Xifaxan too. You can ask your doctor about it. It is a little hard to take, but I don't think it has as many side effects as Flagyl and it stays in your intestines - not systemic. Good luck.

Update. Everything went downhill between yesterday and this morning. Really bad D with distinctive C-Diff smell this morning. Started sobbing on the phone to my sister. I have a Dr's appointment with family Dr. at 5:00 but i don't hold out much hope for an answer since this is not my GI but I just feel so sick maybe they can shed some light on this. Thanks Roy for the input I am not sure what is the new normal anymore except that something feels very wrong.

hello pwood62, I know what tyou are going through; since my last vanco 6 months ago, I have been experiencing bloating, gas, alternating contipation and D in the morning, stomach pain etc. I did lots of stool tests endoscopies and blood tests and everything is fine, I still don't understand what I have, except harsh IBS, I had light IBS before Cdiff and I am worse now, even worse than when I was on vanco, and feeling depressed which does not improve the things, I had really bad D with awful smell 4 times since I have stopped vanco and went to ER and did tests and everyting was fine, and I took 1 week to improve untill another crisis began. And between the crisis I alternate between D and C, not really much improvement.

Roy's absolutely right. What we tend to ignore or overlook is that we've had a major infection in the body's largest and most complex system and organs. It''s going to take some time to heal, and all of the affected organs and systems to return to normal. You also need to understand that the new normal may be different than pre-C-Diff days.

Thank you everybody for the support and good advice. I am finally convinced that I do not have C Diff after a Colonoscopy and 4 stool tests. I am tired of going to the Dr. and tired of taking those tests down to the hospital. I think I have a combination of IBS and things are just trying to heal. I think I need to accept it may take quite a long time. This will be my new normal for awhile. I have good days and very bad days but it will get better. Thanks Roy for your good advice.

Your first post sounds like mine did 6 years ago, same symptoms. The Cdiff was gone but I felt bad. I had the morning runs for 7 months after.
My stomach never felt good. The only thing that helped me was probiotics...I tried just about all of them and in every different dose for years. After 6 years, I now take one culturelle every 3 days and it keeps my stomach and bowels feeling pretty good. Give yourself time, you will heal.
