can we just test positive

Postby prazum » Wed Aug 12, 2009 8:53 pm

Is it possible we can test positive, and not have it or can I truly have had it for over a year. I don't have the runs lately, but oder, gas and bloating is extreme. The infect. disease. Dr. said we should stop chasing the stool, perhaps its a false reading cause it can stay in our body for so long. Anyone heard this before?

My doctor told me that people can test positive for a long time and not have full blown symptoms or D*. They can also be carriers. He, however, does not treat in that case he told me, but tells people to avoid antibiotics and take probiotics, yogurt, etc.

Very interesting question. I had c.diff back in October of 2008 and was treated with flagyl. I had a negative stool immediately after treatment(which I heard can be ano-no as far as thinking you have beat it).

Now I have c.diff again (9 months later). This time was different and I basically had no symtoms. Nor did I take an antibiotic in between. I wonder if my stool was never truly negative or it was positive and I'm somehow a carrier. My GI specialist was talking something about me colonizing it. Not sure what that means.

Isn't is crazy how each doctor or specialist approaches c.diff differently? Doesn't seem like an "expert" is really an expert.

testing positive

Postby Mia-Mia » Sat Aug 15, 2009 9:21 pm

Ok same thing here, I tested positive but no symptoms/ 2 infectious doctors told me yes you can test positive and not have symptoms you can be a carrier. BOTH SAID NO D NO TREATMENT. I seem to be ok for a few months then all the sypmtoms start again BUT just for 2 days. I have tested every time i had bad D I have since been negative everytime except once. But by the time i got the results back syptoms have stopped and doc would not treat. i retested a few days later and negative. SO i am not sure were all the labs wrong? WTF. sunds Like IBS but i dont know any more. i am ok then i get sick again.
SO WHY Krissy Why did you test again?

I tested again because I'm paranoid. LOL! I had more normal BM's prior to taking the flagyl. So I started to wonder if I just didn't beat this round of c.diff with the course of flagyl-or- did the flagyl cause me to have formed, but looser and more frequesnt BM's? By frequent, I mean two times a day but a huge amount.

I'm trying to relax this weekend. I am taking my probiotics and omega 3 fish oils. Plus I bought aloe juice to drink and some slippery elm bark. I'm not writing this here to tell anyone to take it-I just am trying a few things on my own in the event this is just IBS.

Thanks for responce

Do to my extensive medical issues I don't know if I have D or not. Don't really know what my norm is. Had a year hospital stay where I first got the cdiff and had most of my small intestine removed, didn't eat orally for a year and a half, so my bowel movement are not the norm. Still ajusting to what should and shouln't be normal in my situation, but as I mentioned before I test possitive and there is a distinct oder Iv'e come to recognize with cdiff that i can't seem to get rid of. Again thanks for all the responce,I'm new to this site.
