Question about pain on left side

Postby jenkelly15 » Sun May 25, 2008 10:45 am

Hey everyone well it is 10 weeks/70 days off the vancco for me today. I have to say I am doing pretty well I have only had a few bad days with the most 3 BM's and no D at all. However every once in ahwile I get this pain in my left side and I wonder what it is all about. I was wondering if it is part of the recovery time along with gas pains I think I am having lots of those because my stomach has all this movement going on in it I am hoping it's gas pains. Anyway, if anyone had this during their recovery it would be great to know it is normal. Thanks everyone and have a wonderful memorial day weekend.

Yay Jenkelly,

Congrats on the 70 days! I'm sorry I don't know what the pain is, maybe residual inflammation, IBS. Hope it goes away soon!

Take Care:)

Jenny

Yayyyy Jen! Sounds like you are moving right along - Im so glad for you. I still get those shooting pains - usually from gas, and tummy still sometimes roars - and Im a couple months ahead of you..lol. Only on occasion now, however. As always, ask your doc if you are worried, but C-Diff is definitely, as someone said here, "the gift that keeps on giving". All my best to you.

Thanks to the both of you. Yeah I think it might be gas pain too. My stomach still makes a lot more noise then it ever did before c-diff. I actually had a long talk with the ID doctor the other day but forgot to mention the pains on my left side since they only happen occasionally. He thought I should be totally done with the c-diff though since it's been so long he tells his patients 30 days off the vanco and they should be fine. Anyway, hope all is well with both of you and Jenny I read your post about the xiafan, so hopefully that will do the trick and you can be done with the c-diff.

I wonder why so much gas after c-diff. I have a ton of rumbling too. I guess it's the recovery process. I hope I did beat it. Thanks.

jankelly,
Some doc. toldl me that the small intestine joins the large intestine on the left side. I took Anatomy & Phsy. & altho. I've sat in many specialists for years with the blown up chart on the wall re. their particular part of the body, I'd rather read a good book than memorize the chart.

Enjoy your recovery. Don't fixate on the "small stuff." If you have a question re. pain, call your doc. Just because you didn't ask it during your office visit doesn't mean you can't call & ask. Remember, this isn't a medical site, & we can't diagnose pain.

Congrats. on what sounds to to me like a recovery. Celebrate!!!

Don't expect miracles after a long bout with C. diff. "Gas" & bloating are common. Try GasX. See FAQ-Digestive Problems.

Again, congrats.

Thanks everyone for the help. Now, I am nervous because last night I had one episode of D. However, I did eat wendy's, ice cream, and five guys. So I am hoping it was just a regular stomachache. One episode of D does not mean you are relapsing unless it continues on correct? I think forever I will be a total mess when I have D this is terrible.

"I did eat wendy's, ice cream, and five guys"

Hi Jen...gonna refrain from a "five guys" joke..hahahaha, but I totally hear ya. Everytime I just got a normal case of D (and sometimes still do) I would FREAK OUT. I even gave them a nickname - the "Micky D's"...lol. I had to force myself to remember "hey, I "did" have bouts of normal D before C Diff after eating fast food, odds are Im gonna get them in the future too". I actually took my first dose of Immodium (post C Diff) during one of those episodes, and voila. It was just normal D. Thats just my opinion and what helped me of course, but my "fear of Immodium" passed with time. Hang in there...and I really need to hear what exactly "five guys" is..lolol.

Five Guys is a burger joint LOL!!! So I had 2 burger and 2 fries one from wendy's and one from Five Guys and then this ridiculously creamy ice cream, so I think that's what did it. Today so far I have been okay. I use to not even mind getting D before c-diff now it is like the worst thing ever because all your fears coming rushing back. Anyway thanks everyone. Happy Memorial Day!!!!

You guys are too funny. I did not know it was a burger joint either. I just laughed when I read it. Anyway I still have episodes when I eat ice cream or too much fast food. It does get scary though...
