For those of you who have been around for a while - I'm back. I have had c-diff 3 times in the past 8 years. I've checked in every now and then over the last 3 years since I last stopped taking vanco. Now I'm pregnant again & facing another c-section (the cause of 2 of my battles with c-diff). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll aviod an infection & antibiotics all together - but I'm preparing just in case.
My question is - have any of you been advised not to take probiotics while battling c-diff? I had always been advised to use probiotics in the past, but my new ID doc has found some recent literature to suggest that probiotcs can actually aggravate c-diff symptoms. I understand that on the surface, this doesn't make sense - but I'm wondering if others have heard the same advice.
Thanks!
advised not to take probiotics?

When I went to the gastro doc he wans't to keen on them.. but no reason, he also told me to stay off the internet..lol..
My infectious d doctor said to eat lots of yogurt and to take lactobacillus(sp)? .. so I guess its up to what the doctor knows or personal choice....
I hope you can avoid getting it again!! Good luck

Probiotis
I asked my gastrointestinal doctor when I left the hospital about taking probiotics and he said "I personally don't think they help, but my wife makes my whole family take Florastor". So I bought that and took them while I was taking the vancomyacin for 2 weeks. After I finished the anitbiotic, I still felt lousy, so I went to a well known local health market, and their specialist recommended Bio-K. It is a liquid in a bottle which is kept in the refrigerator at the store and at home, and has 160 billion acidophyllus and 2 other probiotics in it. I drank one a day which is what she recommended and after about 3 days I felt great!! It has now been a little over a month since I've been out of the hospital, and I drink one about every other day. Each bottle is one serving and each bottle costs about $ 4.50 each, but it is well worth it.
