colon cleansing ?

Postby fire7163 » Sat Oct 06, 2007 4:34 pm

Am seeing a lot of info on colon cleansing and some interesting claims. I looked for info on site and didn't really see anything that was pro or con. The drawback that I can see would be the flushing of the good guys along with the bad. Any insight on this ???

I only know of one person who had C-diff who tried a colon cleanse and it totally messed her up. Seriously. Not a good situation. Talk to your Dr. if you can first.

Someone had suggested this to me also. This post was made a year ago, has anyone heard of doing the colon cleanse since then? I was going to try it, but now I don't know.

The vast majority of doctors will tell you that colon cleansing is 1.) completely unnecessary and 2.) potentially harmful, because it can disrupt the balance of beneficial bacteria. I know everyone who believes in this "natural" remedy will disagree, and I'm not interested in arguing about it. Just passing on what I believe the medical opinion is.

Hi all,
Another potential problem with colon cleansing is the danger of a perforated bowel. Just imagine all of those lovely c diff toxins free floating in the abdominal cavity. I personally wouldn't touch that one with a ten foot pole, even if I didn't have c diff!!

What about the prep work for a colonoscopy would that cause c-diff too or no???

I was on an antibiotic and had to the bowel prep for surgery. As soon as I drank that stuff, the cdiff hit me. I've been visting this site for over 4 years and there has been only one other poster who came down with cdiff while doing a bowel prep.

I did a bowel prep for a colo while having pseudomembranous colitis from c diff and felt much better for about 24 hrs after that - I guess because amongst all the other stuff maybe the c diffies got flushed out, too. Or maybe because the colon had nothing to do due to lack of food? However, a day later the infection came back with a vengance and I developed a very sudden high fever. So I, too, am sceptical...

Same here -- skeptical. Cleansing necessary for colonscopy but wouldn't advise it otherwise, but check with your doc.
