Thanks Nan....The bacteria that gets in while doing root canal causes the infection...and it hurts like the dickens!!! I started the clindamycin, vancomycin, and Flagyl.....Still hurts, hope meds start working soon.....Lovely....It seems that since I got this c-diff I get all the worse infections possible. Last month I had an infected salivary gland, the month before an abcessed tooth, bladder infections, its never ending...

Jodie, Yes, I hope the meds start to work soon so you’ll feel better. Boy, you have been through the mill will infections lately. Hopefully this is it for a long while.
How long do you have to take the Vanco and Flagyl? Just while on the Clindamycin? For a week or two past? Any pulse dosing?
Feel better,
Nan

Clindamycin: a necessary evil?
Per my case history, I too acquired c.diff after multiple anti-biotics..clinda being the final culprit. The thing that you might want to verify w/dentist is that if by day 3 of taking it, if you are not experiencing any relief - does that indicate that perhaps it's Not do to an infection. Sounds like all the other things you are taking/doing should help in protecting your gut as much as possible while you are on it. I will say a prayer for you.
Side Note: I had 3 attempts at rootcanal then he finally had to do an apicoectomy (gum surgery) to access & complete the rootcanal. I had no more tooth pain, but still had terrible cheek, face pain (that what landed me in the ENT's office where he suspected bone infection & prescribed Clindamycin). Only took 2 days worth - then diagnosed w/possitive c.diff. Face pain got worse- Oral Max Facial dr & neurologist diagnosed me with Trigeminal Neuralgia (not good). So I did need the rootcanal & it did help in regards to the tooth issue. However the persistant pain I was having wasn't due to infection - I didn't need ABs or the c.diff!

Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN) meds
Jodie, at first they put me on Neurontin (didn't work), then the usual one they tend to use..Tegretol (anit-seizure drug)- I was up to 600 mg 2ce day-which really made me a total airhead & wasn't really helping much. So the Neuro put me on Trileptol (anit-seizure) I'm at 225mg 2ce day & it seems to help reduce the frequency & intensity of attacks. Trial & error for this condition too. It's a wonder we're still sane.

"Practicing" Medicine
I guess that's why they call it "practicing" medicine huh? Hope the 2nd RCT goes textbook perfect & your tooth pain is better.
