Feacal calprotectin test and C diff

Postby jdark » Sat Feb 05, 2022 12:30 pm

Hello everyone,

My digestive problems started 2.5 years ago after antibiotic treatment for dog bite. Terrible acid reflux, abdominal cramps, bloating, loose stools... My reflux misdiagnosed as throat infection so had another antibiotic for a week. And finally another course after O have been tested positive for H pylori. So unfortunayely I had so many antibiotics. Endoscopy didnt give much clue but ENT confirmed throat damage because of reflux. I used PPi for 4 months which didnt help. Since I couldnt get much help from doctors and test I just learnt to live with it ( bloating, constipation and acid reflux).

3 months ago I started to get worse. I was having loose stools, abdominal cramps and next day terrible constipation and bloating. Then I had bad nausea, watery yellow diarrhea for 8 days. I lost quite a bit of weight. When I see GI, he diagnosed me with IBS. He only did full blood panel, celiac test and feacal calprotectin test. When I asked him if I should get a stool test for any parasites or C diff he said calprotectin test would show if there are any inflamation. All my tests came nomal including calprotectin level quite low (1.5) He gave me Xifaxan for possible SIBO and diarrhea changed to constipation again. I am just worried that if calprotectin test would be enough for eliminate C diff. Also since I am having constipation again I dont know if there is still a possibilty that I have C diff. I am so confused since eveything started after antibiotic.
I appreciate any feedback

Your symptoms do not indicate C.Diff.
Your Dr's correct and should not specifically test for C. Diff, you could get a false positive.

Same as Roy…
I am not sure why you were stuck on a c diff diagnosis other than the antibiotic use. You had classic reflux symptoms and your dr has been following up all your issues looking for a final diagnosis and effective treatment.

I would stick with him.
