doxycycline

Postby annette123 » Tue Oct 26, 2021 7:19 pm

hello, doc wants me to take doxycycline for an infection in my finger; worried about cellulitis i guess. Reading online, doxycycline doesn't seem to be one of the worst offenders but I am, of course, concerned taking any antibiotic. Does anyone have advise about this antibiotic?

with your good health in mind

My mother took it for almost a month after she had c diff ( a few years later) and had no relapse. I also took it without it causing a relapse. My ID told me it is one of the safer ones to take post c diff, but as you know, any antibiotic can cause c difficile. However, if the finger needs treating, best treat it so it doesn't get worse and then you might need a stronger antibiotic.

I, too, took doxy without a problem, and I am very susceptible to c diff. We can’t guarantee you won’t have a problem as everyone one is different.

Best of luck. Fingers crossed.

If the infection is not resolving on its own follow your Dr's advice.
If it's minor and improving then it might be worth waiting a day or two.
Only you can judge if it's worth the risk.
