Hello,
Is there a test to see if the cdiff is active or not? I was diagnosed this past June 2021 because of D. However, I do not believe this is the first time I have had this disease. I am on my second GI doctor. I was given Vanco for ten days. Since then, I have one very, very large, mostly mushy BM a day. Only one time a day, so I am thankful. However, I have lost 35 pounds since June, I know it is from not eating as much as I used to so I started a food journal to make sure I eat at least 1500 calories a day. I have restricted my diet because of being afraid to eat anything that will aggravate. But regardless of what I eat or not, my one BM a day is very large. I do not have the classic cdiff symptoms, and I am scared to get retested and start on an antibiotic if it is positive without D. But I keep losing weight and that is scary too. I have so much anxiety. Thank you for any guidance or help.

An average person on 1500 calories a day will lose up to 2 pounds a week.
Its probably your lack of nutrition that's causing weight loss.

Hi Roy,

I’m having the same problem with weight loss- what can we do to add some weight on?

Jodiekee: I was on Dificid for 10 days. I did not have diarrhea at the time because I had been taking Vanomycin at the time I switched to Dificid. I don't remember having any problems or nasty side effects from dificid. Only good results! :)

The following was my dificid log:

On Sept 2, 2017, I took Vancomycin three times that day, had semi-soft stools.

On Sept 3, 2017, I switched to Dificid twice (bid), no reactions, semi-soft stools. (Dificid Day 1)

On Sept 4, 2017, semi-solid stools, no reactions. (Dificid Day 2)

On Sept 5, 2017, semi-soft stools. (Dificid Day 3)

On Sept 6, 2017, semi-solid, more formed stools. (Dificid Day 4)

On Sept 7, 2017, semi-soft stools, increased bowel discomfort and constipation. (Dificid Day 5)

On Sept 8, 2017, formed stools, later was runny. (Dificid Day 6)

On Sept 9, 2017, semi-soft, later had formed stools. (Dificid Day 7)

On Sept 10, 2017, semi-soft. (Dificid Day 8)

On Sept 11, 2017, semi-solid. (Dificid Day 9)

On Sept 12, 2017, semi-solid, later had solid stools. (Dificid Day 10)

On Sept 13, 2017, firm stools. (No Dificid Day 1)

On Sept 14, 2017, solid stools but constipated, feel good. (No Dificid Day 2)

Agree with Roy.

I’m struggling with weight gain and signs of malnutrition too. I’m aiming for at least 2000 kcal a day, even though I have almost no appetite. Even that isn’t doing the job so 1500 is not much at all for an adult looking to gain.

Lissaucd, there are several threads on foods to help with weight gain, you can find them using the search function.

I suggest you see an Infectious Disease doctor.

Everyone says that Dificid was hard for them to take. In what way? I have had abdominal pain throughout the whole treatment and now on day 9 it’s worse and I have uncontrollable diarrhea. What are y’all’s experiences?
