Relapse?
I had Cdiff about 5 years ago and this board was a lifesaver. It got me through many dark hours and gave me a lot of guidance. So, that’s why I’am here again. I had to take Diflucan for a bad thrush infection I got from an antibiotic mouthwash. Since, taking the pill I had the worse stomach pain. I haven’t had pain like this since Cdiff. It never occurred to me that an antifungal could effect Cdiff. Did anyone take this pill and these bad side effect? I have some diarrhea to and trying to get appointment to take a test.

Re: Relapse?
My mom took Diflucan without relapsing. I don't remember if she had D from it. Others have taken it too, but I am sure there can be side effects. My GI told me before that it should not cause a relapse, but I took Nystatin because it is milder than Diflucan. It is also an anti-fungal.

Re: Relapse?
I read that those were the side effects, but I only took one pill and they are only getting worse as the days go by. It’s day five and the diarrhea is pure water now. Maybe, anything that messes with the flora could cause the spores to accidavate.

Re: Relapse?
I have taken DIflucan many times over the last 5 years. It can cause GI symptoms, and sometimes I would get worried but no relapse

So sorry to hear you relapsed Scoopy, hope you will beat it with the standard dose of treatment.
Do you think taking one Diflucan pill caused the relapse? Or can be because of the antibiotic mouthwash?

Re: Relapse?
Sorry, I didn’t respond it’s been a rough couple of days. My doctor first tried to prescribe Flagyl but I argue with her and got Vanco. She is not too knowledgeable about Cdiff so I waiting to get into a new GI. My main symptoms is still the crazy amount of bloating and abdominal pain. The diarrhea is only in the morning, so I’ve have not taken the Vanco. I was hoping my body would correct itself.
I had to have gotten the Cdiff from the antifungal. I only swish with the antibiotic mouthwash for a couple of days. Since the antifungal is systemic is mess with the flora balance.

I would start taking floraster if you haven't yet. I have seen articles suggesting abx mouthwash can cause C Diff.

Sorry to hear that you've relapsed. Which antibiotic mouthwash did you use?

Re: Relapse?
I have used the antibiotic mouthwash Peridex off and on for many years without a problem, including when I had c diff and osteomyelitis. Check with your dentist pm doc, and pharmacist.
