I hope this is true and we will find a medication to cure C Diff soon.

Sounds promising!
32 y/o female. Got C. diff in Feb. 2020. Prescribed Flagyl (10 days), then Flagyl again (4 days), then Vanco (10 days), then Dificid (10 days), then Dificid again (10 days), then a Vanco taper (5 wks), then a Dificid taper (2 mths) and finally recovered.

Here is another article about the same study but more info .. very exciting , It states it has a 100% cure rate and no recurrences!!! Hard to believe

" Phase II dose ranging study in patients with CDI showed that the 250mg of MGB-BP-3, given twice daily for 10 days, achieved an initial cure and sustained cure of 100%%"

https://www.biospace.com/article/releas ... MBPS7EGgmE

How long it takes to get it through next two phases on to Pharmacies?

Still VERY early days in testing this drug.
Phase 2 study took 5 years and only involved 34 patients.
Bringing it to the market will take many more years of tests and experiments.
Probably 5 to 10 years even if its fast tracked.

Heres the trial in detail.

https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT ... w=2&rank=1

Note that theres 2 levels of " cure "
1 the drug resolves symptoms. ( even flagyl does that)
2 the symptoms have not returned at the 4 week mark.
It looks promising but it's a very small study and on average only 6 participants would have relapsed on vanco and 3 on Dificid and if it works it wont be available for quite a while!

I hope I'm not dead by the time they come out with a real cure. I sure would like to eat the way I used to be able to before c diff.

Dificid was "discovered" around 1986.
Its was fast tracked but not approved for use untill 2011 in adults and 2019 in children.
Advancement is slow and posters need to realise that the far majority of these trials on new antibiotics will not benifit todays c.diff community.
Now, if they can find an old antibiotic that's not used anymore and it shows efficiency at curing c.diff that would be a major breakthrough.
That's how Vancomycin was rediscovered!
Its 60+ years old, had no use as an oral antibiotic but then they found it killed c.diff.

Have been involved with c diff a long time. In 1978, our younger son - then 4 - was one of the first and the youngest to take oral Vanco. It saved his life. Earlier, Vanco was strictly an IV drug. I have been on it numerous times during three bouts of c diff.

In 2012, another site member and then moderator, Christina, and I went to Washington, DC, and spoke before the FDA to get Dificid accepted as a treatment drug. We learned about the meeting through our long-time moderator, Beth.

Lots of water under the bridge. I hope I am alive when there is another breakthrough that will break the bug's neck permanently. It will be Time to Party!!!

May I ask how many of you have taken Dificid. Does it make you ill like Vanvo does! Thank You

I have taken Vanco and Difficid but didn't notice any side effects with either one. For me, Flagyl had the worst side effects

I have taken Dificid in 2014/15 and also recently ( finished 3 weeks ago). I do not feel well while taking it. I also get back pain, bladder pain while taking it, sometimes I feel like I have a bladder infection. BUT, it has worked for me. We have other posters have similar bladder irritations with Vanco and Dificid. In 2014/15 I had been on Flagyl( failed) and Vanco twice with taking a 3 month pulse/taper. I also failed that. I went on a Dificid taper and finally got rid of it after nearly 1 year.

Recently I had CDIFF back in March due to taking Keflex for a UTI. I once again did well on a Dificid taper.
Unfortunately, in Mid Aug I landed in the hospital with another infection but with Sepsis also so I was admitted and given IV antibiotics. This time probably due to the IV antibiotics I had the worst CDIFF symptoms I have ever had. I just finished a Dificid taper 3 weeks ago, fingers crossed!!!

We have some on the site with NO side effects which is great!!

Hi,
Just a note regarding antibiotics for a UTI. I had trouble with UTIs for years and was finally told by my OB/GYN that Estrace (Estradiol) would help. It's in cream form and is used as a suppository every 3 days. The reason it helps is it makes the dry thin tissues in the vagina plump up so that they don't receive irritation as much, thereby heading off UTIs. The minute I started using this cream, the UTIs stopped and have not returned.

I am fortunate that I had no side effects with vanco.
