Question about test results?
Has any of you had a NAAT for C Diff where the presence of the bacteria was positive but the toxin negative? My doctor considered it as a positive test but that still confused me. Anyone else have experienced this?

Re: Question about test results?
If the toxin is negative (and you dont have obvious symptoms) it's a negative test.
Dont trust that Dr!
If the first part of the test was considered reliable there would be no reason to confirm it by doing a toxin test, nobody tests just for fun!
The decision to treat is not made on the first part of the test.

Sorry, I forgot to mention, but I did have pretty bad symptoms with it.

please dont use the quote feature.
If symptoms are copious watery D 3 x a day or more it might still be c.diff but additional testing should be done to confirm it.

Re: Question about test results?
When I have had positive PCR with a negative EIA, the lab labeled it as negative.

This is what the laboratory interpretation says;
"Indeterminate interpretation: Clinical evaluation
necessary, may represent colonization if there
is an alternative cause of diarrhea.
May indicate Clostridium difficile infection with a lower
burden of disease or a false negative toxin test.
Caution is advised in immunocompromised patients
or when there is a high suspicion for infection.
Obtain an ID consult if appropriate."

My first 2 tests were negative for the toxins, but my symptoms were HORRRRRIBLE! My 3rd test (second relapse) both toxins A and B were positive, but my symptoms were mild and were able to be treated only with Florastor.

Caligirl, that is very encouraging to see it can be treated with Florastor. What was the dose you were taking to treat the C-Diff?
Male 54, contracted C-Diff on Feb 5, 2020, diagnosed on March 2nd, Took Flagyl for 8 days, Vanco for 10 days, relapsed 5 weeks post-Vanco. finished Dificid Taper on June 20 relapsed two weeks later, had the FMT on July 14th, 2020
