Post Cdiff flare

Postby Betsy723 » Mon Jan 20, 2020 3:15 pm

36 female
I have been Cdiff free since May 2018
Post Cdiff testing showed ulcerative colitis
I have been managing my symptoms well since Oct 2018
Since Christmas I have been having more abdominal pain ,flat stool and just general not feeling well.
I already have an appointment with my GI this week and have done blood and fecal testing for inflammation.
I am looking to see if anyone has done a prednisone burst without a Cdiff chaser like Dificid. ( oct 2018 my gi put me in the hospital for a flare I had prednisone and Dificid just in case.)

Only your Dr can advise on medical questions.
My understanding is that while taking Vanco or Dificid you would not develop an active c.diff infection but your gut flora would still be damaged by medication (and also by Vanco and Dificid) The damage would still be there when you finish the antibiotic and you may be vulnerable to c.diff overgrowth for several months.
Prophylactic Vanco or Dificid is questionable at best.
Some studies say it causes more harm than good.
