Vanco and Bristol Chart

Postby Vernw » Fri Nov 16, 2018 11:17 am

Good Morning!

I spoke with my GI specialist at great length two weeks ago and he encouraged me to keep taking my Vanco because my PCR test did in fact show positive toxin and he thought it would be best to kill off the toxin then to spread the illness to others around me.

Since taking the Vanco, my nausea has subsided, I am finally eating again (which I did not think would happen again!) and I'm no longer an emotional roller-coaster! I would cry for no reason some days. I was an emotional wreck. My BMs also formed but are still not my normal BMs.

I'm not sure if I am posting this in the right board so please forgive me. Prior to this illness, I was a 3 on the Bristol Chart. Now I am a 4. Is the Vanco causing the BMs to be a 4 on the scale. Could I potentially go back to being a 3 after my Vanco wears off? I'm officially going to be done with the Vanco next Friday morning.

I'm just not sure if this is normal and if my movements should be really solid and a 3 on the Chart since being on the Vanco. I want to get back to my old bathroom visits so bad at this point.

This bulletin board has really been supportive to all of us and I seriously want to thank all of you! While I was down I turned to a lot of these threads and knew that I was not the only one suffering which helped lift my mood immensely.

Thank you in advance to anyone that read this thread! You truly are not alone. Here's to testing negative when I take my next test :)

Noooooooo!
A test to see if it's gone is not recommended!
Doing so results in severe overtreatment!
You can test positive for a long time after the infection is cured.
Your Dr should have known that.

PCR does not detect toxins, it detects the genetic marker for toxin B.
It's very very sensitive and might pick it up for months after it stops being a disease.
Only symptoms indicate if it's gone.
No D means no disease!

Thanks, Roy! Do you know if Vanco can cause me to be a 4 on the Bristol chart when before I was a 3? Will I ever get back to being a 3? I'm eating everything I ate before and am able to stomach it. I'm just not sure why it is still a 4 and not turning to 3s.

If Drs treated to prevent the spread of c.diff just on positive tests it would mean tens of millions af the people in America would all be on Vanco every day!
For every person that gets c.diff as a disease theres dozens more carrying it as normal healthy flora.
Not to mention the pets, pigs, horses, birds and other animals that have it as harmless natural flora.
Then theres the fact that it's very common in the human food chain and on one in 4 doorsteps and 1 in 4 pairs of shoes!

Your taking a medication, a substance that is alien to the human body.
A substance designed to kill something that's inside you.
Dont be surprised if your body reacts adversely because all meds can cause side effects.

I had loose BMs before I took the Vanco and I was just wiped out. I trust that I had this illness and can say I finally am back to myself. I just want to know if my BMs will go back to normal to how they were 2+ months ago. I just don't know if the Vanco currently is causing me to be at the 4 when I normally am at a 3. I want to be back to normal in that arena.

Exactly why asymptomatic c.diff is not treated.
The potential harm and side effects of medication far outweigh the benifit of treating!

The most worrying thing is your looking forward to a negative test.
That might never be possible!

No, my BMs were very loose and semi-formed when they were tested. Prior to becoming sick, I was a 3. Now I'm a 4. I did not send in a 3 for a test. I would never do that. I just want to make sure that I'll be back to my normal self and that my 4 is not my normal now.

Prior to CDiff and Vanco I was always a 3 on Bristol. Now I am a 4. I'm 12.5 weeks in recovery and still usually a 4 now. Idk if it will ever go back to how it was before and assume this is my new normal for now.
