IBDs

Postby Amila » Sat Sep 15, 2018 7:46 pm

Hello all,

I had C Diff 2 and half years ago, successfully treated with Vanco. The recovery, as all of you know, long , strange, never ending, worsened IBS ( that I suffer from anyway). My question is : could C Diff itself cause IBD ( Ulcerative colitis or Chrons) almost three years later. I am 57 year old woman, and was perfectly healthy before C Diff, but , as I mentioned, always had IBS , stomach issues and anxiety. Had colonoscopy early because of that ( at the age of 45), which was normal.

Could it be worsened IBS? I DO NOT have multiple profuse D or any blood, but often severe cramps after dinner.

Thank you

I do know of two people who got IBD after c difficile. One man got UC and the woman I know got Crohn's. This was soon after tbough, not 3 years later.

I dont know if c.diff directly causes IBDs but it definatley can result in pre existing conditions that were only giving mild (or non existant) symptoms to become troublesome.
I think it's fair to assume that someone who had symptoms bad enough to result in a colonoscopy before c.diff will have continuing symptoms after.
IBS is another way of saying "we cant find anything wrong" but you have certain recognizable symptoms.
IBDs are accurate diagnosis of physical defects in the lower digestive system.

Thank you guys for your insight.

Many of my symptoms - except sometimes severe cramps after dinner - actually cannot be matched with IBD. But, Ci Diff , in addition to hurting your intestines for years - makes you overly worried and paranoid. I probably had bad periods of IBS many times before C Diff, but I think that all I focus on now is what has been happening after C DIff infection. I barely can remember how I was doing before it.
Also, in mid April this year I had infra-red procedure done by a colo-rectal surgeon, for some internal hemmorhoids, so I suppose he would see al least something suspicious. All he saw were hems.

I will see a Gastro specialist in October. I am just hoping to have all the necessary tests except the dreaded colonoscopy. I did very good for more than 2 years after C Diff. How many years does it actually take for some of us to heal? God knows.

Best to all
