68 year old male

Postby Nana1218 » Wed Aug 22, 2018 11:44 pm

Hubby had back surgery 3 months ago. 3 days after coming home, he had a major GI Bleed. Put on life support. Finally went home. Then back and forth in and out of hospital for 6 weeks. Eventually had Necrosis of Pancreas. Finally he began recovery. Now, about 6 weeks later, he has CDiff. He was on massive amounts of Vanc while in the hospital. Got a script today for 10 days. Cost $600 over what insurance paid. How can people afford that?? He is 68 years old. Is this the right treatment. He will see GI dr. on Tuesday for follow up on all the prior issues. Internal Dr. is the one that did the test for Cdiff. Beginning to wonder if he will ever recover.

You could ask the doctor to prescribe the liquid form of Vanco witch is cheaper. Go to a compound pharmacy and get it in liquid form. Should cut the cost substantially (90%).

Hello Nana1218 - Welcome to the site. So sorry for all that your husband has been through and now has to deal with c-diff on top of everything else. I just wanted to add that maybe adding a probiotic such as sacchromyces boulardii will help to restore his good gut flora to beat this quickly. Florastor is one of the more popular ones. I am one that believes that probiotics aided in my c-diff recovery.

I also feel like I did better while taking Florastor. 2 pills twice daily while on antibiotics and half that after

Check with your doctor before you give him any probiotics as he had problems with his pancreas. Make sure it is okay first.
