Antibiotic eye drops

Postby Zapper » Tue Oct 24, 2017 11:07 pm

Anybody end up needing antibiotic eye drops and having issues or relapse?
It seems like a stretch but I am worried. I have a bad case of bacterial conjunctivitis and doc wants to use antibiotic eye drops along with steroid drops. I am concerned of relapse. C diff has scared me and I want to see if anyone successfully used eye drops with no issue???

My eye is pretty painful but I have read that it can heal in 7-10 days on its own too.

Others have used them with no issues. I have used antibiotic ointment in my eye with no problem. Which one is it?

Antibiotic eye drops should be fine to use as long as they do not contain Clindamycin.

If it's minor and you think it will heal on its own then why take a chance?
Currently theres an advertising campaign on UK television educating people on the inapropriate use of antibiotics for self limiting and minor ailments.
Eye creams are considered "fairly" safe though.

I had pink eye not long after c-diff and I used antibiotic drops with no problem. As Roy said, pink eye/conjuctivitis can be minor or even viral, but doctors usually just prescribe an antibiotic drop anyway. However, I took the drops because I could not tolerate the pink eye. The drops cleared it up quickly too.

Yes, doctor has confirmed not viral and bacterial conjunctivitis. It is painful and very sensitive to light and I don’t know if I can make it the potential 7-10 days to clear.
Just checking in here for peace of mind.

There's going to be times in the future when your going to have to decide if minor infections are going to be left to run their course or if your going to reduce them by a day or two by treating them.
Antibiotics are not intended as a cure all medication.
They are powerfull life savers if used correctly.
