Macrobid?
Has anyone successfully taken Macrobid after cdiff? I ended up getting a UTI from the stent that was placed after Lithotripsy almost immediately after taking Vanco for cdiff. My stools firmed up and had no strong odor. Now I'm on Macrobid (may even have to take it once a day at a low dose to prevent further infections) day 5 and my stools are loose again and I'm having slight nausea.

I know Bobbie was on it for a long time and others have taken it as well without relapsing.

Re: Macrobid?
I have to have a urethral dilation once a year. I take Macrobid for it - 3/day for 3 days and have never gotten a recurrence of C. Diff. I also make sure I take probiotics before, during and after the dilation. BTW, I've continued on the probiotics and so far (knock on wood), I have not had a problem with them. However, I still have IBS (with or without probiotics) and it's been early 5 years since C. Diff. It's just something I've learned to live with.

There are several posters that used Macrobid without relapsing , some of them used it in early Cdiff recovery and although it gave some GI discomfort they haven't relapsed. Jds was one of the posters that used Macrobid for a UTI after she had her Rebiotix enemas and she did fine , you can PM her because she is not active on the site.

My stomach has been upset since about the 3rd day on it but today my stool is firm again. Having cramping though.

Good to hear that things are firming up. For cramps you can use a heating pad or you can ask your doctor about antispasmodics.
