Just got my 10 supply of Dificid. Is Dificid unstable if stored in temps outside of 20-25°C (68-77°F)?

Sorry if this sounds too negative, but 5 days is not nearly past the point of relapse. It seems that it's most common for people to relapse a week or two after their last antibiotic treatment. I think I've heard a relatively common consensus that you are relatively clear from a relapse after 1-2 months since antibiotics.

That being said, you just finished a course with the best C diff medication out there. Continue with a good diet and add as many sources of prebiotics and probiotics as you can! You're on a great trajectory.

I always could tolerate salads. Lettuce is supposed to be hard to digest, however, it is also difficult to wash throughly - a microbiologist told me to not eat it except at home.

So hope u get rid of Irma and c diff.

When I have questions about a Med., a I often call a pharmacist. Sometimes they are helpful - sometimes not. - just like docs.

Hope Dificid works for you!

Hi midway!

Today marks 5 days post-dificid. My confidence that I'm over a relapse is growing.

When I was 4 days post-vancomycin taper/pulsing, I suffered runny bms and felt sick, followed by D several times. Then, at 5days post-vancomycin felt quite ill and weak! Day 6 was awful, called doctor, got dificid rx.

There is a war going on in my colon, right now, between the good flora versus the C-diff caused by hatching C-diff spores! I think that my good flora is strong enough to keep the C-diff bacteria in check! I took a lot of probiotics during my 10 days of dificid and am continuing to take them! As a result I am having solid, formed bms; strong appetite; feel really good.

There's rumbling and gurgling going on in my gut, but that is somewhat expected, because there is a war going on down there! So far I feel that the good guys are winning!

Hi Bobbie! Thanks for your comments and encouragement!

It's great that you could also eat salads! I really have little choice. I have multiple complex health issues that dictate how I must live my life, especially if I want to have a decent quality of life.

Fortunately, I love, love, LOVE my salads! I am glad you can enjoy them too!

Best of luck and health!

In my opinion, you should eat what you like and what agrees with you and since you are used to salads, then eat them. I found that the foods that I stopped eating during c diff were the ones that I could not tolerate afterwards and that included salads, vegetables, fruit. I wonder if I had kept eating them, if perhaps I wouldn't have had problems with them later on. I never stopped eating red meat and I had no difficulty. Vegetables are supposed to feed the good bacteria. Probiotics can also cause gurgling and gas, but I think it is a good idea to take them post c diff if you tolerate them.

My relapses were usually anywhere from 17-30 days later on average. I did have one 4 months later without having taken antibiotics, but the others at 7 months, etc. were after I had to take antibiotics for something.

It sounds as if you are doing well and obviously you have to eat what favors your other health issues. Let us know how things go with you. Wishing you the best!

Hi Beth22, thanks for your comments, especially those supporting my diet! :)

What happens to you if you eat salads?

Thanks for the info on probiotics causing gurgling and gas. My elder mind will try to remember that!

You, having a relapse 4 months after resolution, must have been devastating! How were you able to cope with that awful misfortune!?

Well... time for me to take my probiotics on this 6th day post-dificid. One day at a time, constantly looking over my shoulder to see if C-diff is sneaking up behind me!

Regards, Bob

If I eat salads, and I haven't tried raw anything except avocado in years, I get cramping and D. I have had more relapses than I can count, but the ones that came so many months later were hard to take. Basically, I just put my faith in God that I will get through this and try to take one day at a time. I do get very depressed at times though and right now is one of those times since I have tested positive on PCR since last year's hospitalization after testing negative for years. It's kind of half positive - positive PCR, but negative EIA, but I have symptoms and I can't eat normally as I could before c diff.

I also have SIBO and pancreatitis and that complicates things more, especially the SIBO.

Just take it one day at a time, Bob, and you will be okay.

Beth22, I am so sorry that you are having to fight depression, and have to deal with unpleasant symptoms and health problems! I thank you for trying to encourage me, while at the same time having quite a burden of your own! It speaks well of you!

It puzzles me that I can eat raw veggies and salads while many other C-diff sufferers can't. My C-diff infection made me so sickly that I stupidly got rid of some stuff that was very important to me and told my wife that I wasn't going to make it! And yet, today I am almost feeling normal. Doesn't make any sense!

Take care and I hope you can rebound from your depression!

Thank you for your kind words, Bob. I will rebound one way or another. I just saw my endocrinologist today, who is also an internist, and he reminded me of a treatment that was offered to me back in 2009 when I was first diagnosed with SIBO following c diff and treatment. There is a medical food that is a liquid nutrition called Vivonex. Back in 2009 the specialist offered me the choice of either trying Xifaxan or going on this liquid food for 2 - 4 weeks. I had lost so much weight from the c difficile at the time, that I did not even want to consider the Vivonex. I took Xifaxan and I did get relief from the SIBO. But, he told me to ask the SIBO specialist about it. I'm not sure they are doing that anymore, but it is a thought. It is supposed to starve the bacteria or something to that effect. Not sure I could manage to just have this liquid nutrition for that long though.

Interestingly, my mother had relapsing c difficile and for some reason was in the hospital and put on a line that gave her nutrition for a few weeks. She did not have anything by mouth, just liquid through the tube. Then the line got infected and she had to take antibiotics, but she did not relapse with c difficile. Maybe there is something to this. I will have to look into it.
