In America Drs automaticaly prescribe antibiotics for strep throat, it reduces suffering by 1 day only, but it reduces the infectious period by several days.
In UK Drs do not give any treatment for strep throat in healthy persons except over the counter meds.
If the risk of c.diff outweighs the risk of passing it on to someone its up to you if you take the meds.
I know what I would do!

I don't want to take it but, I work in healthcare as can't go back to work unless I'm being treated. What to do.. I read differ t things about penicillin. One that it's safe, the other that it's not

Any antibiotic comes with a risk of recurrence, some are higher offenders but a risk exists regardless.

If you decide to take the penicillin, would also up your probiotic intake if your stomach can handle it.

Sometimes it's not a choice. In my case I had to take Keflex( higher offender) 6 months post CDIFF due to a bladder infection. I increased the probiotic, timed everything and hoped for the best. All went well....very thankful for that. I called my GI who worked with my urologist on this, it made me feel better they were working together. I would call the GI and get advice.

Hope you feel better soon

I would take a week off work so that I did not spread it (if i had symptoms) just so my employer was satisfied it's gone.
Remember asymptomatic strep is VERY common so no tests can be done to see if its cured.
Google it yourself and also the antibiotic risk.

As I said one place reads penicillin vm is high offender and other places say it's safe list. Pharmacist says it usually doesn't. I do have symptoms of strep so it's a catch 22 I guess.

Ampicillin and amoxicillin are high offenders, but PenVK is not. I don't know if PenVK works for strep. What about erythromycin or a Zpak? Ask your doctor what other choices there are. I, for example, am allergic to penicillin and would not be able to take it. Doxycycline is a low offender too, but you need to find out what works besides the penicillin.

Many posters including myself have taken zpak without a problem. I'm pretty sure zpak is used to treat strep. I would still take probiotics no matter which antibiotic you take though. Hope you feel better soon.
