Sorry - I've asked a similiar question in 2 posts now.
I asked my doctor if i should have dificid extended by a week since I was on Cipro when I started treatment. Her response was No. You have
Dificid once and when it's done, it's done, you don't take it again. Does anyone dispute that or have any response I can give back to my ID???
Thanks.
Dificid - Have you been prescribed it more than once?Sorr

I posted this in another thread but its relevant to you as well.
If your Drs one that sticks to recomended dosage and only looking at the manufacturers instructions then he is correct.
BUT there's lots of other info that is available and tapering is often used.

Roy - thank you for the articles. I'll be seeing my dr on Tuesday; hopefully she's open to reviewing the articles.
Nothing is ever easy these days. Thanks for you help.

Hi
I would bring the articles to your doctor. MAny on this site have been on a DIficid Taper including myself. For me, that was after MONTHS of Vanco, I was on a wait list for an FMT and there was no option at the time. It did work and I am CDIFF free. I am sure other's will jump in here.
I brought in Several articles to my GI
Wishing the best

I did take Dificid for 10 days then relapsed. At the time (2014) the FDA had come out with more restrictions and my local GI's would not do them. I went on a Dificid taper because that is all they would do while I was on a waiting list for the only local GI doing them. When I saw him, he said finish with the taper and we will do the FMT if needed. By the time I finished the taper, I did not need the FMT. It was a 3 month taper, I had a lot of GI problems being on meds that long( 10 months) and it has taken me a long time to recover.
If you look under CDI, I believe there is information on both Vanco and Dificid tapers. You can also look them up in the search bar.

10 dqays of Dificid might not be enough to get well , many people needed a longer course , try to talk to your doctor about a 30 days course , might do the trick for you.

Not happy! I saw my I/D yesterday and talked to her about extending Dificid or getting a tapering dose. She read the articles Roy had given me (thank you again) and her comments were - what is the point of tapering and these articles must be from another country - we don't do this in the U.S. I'm devastate. What to do next.

Hi, Sophie!
I was also someone who was on a Dificid taper and it worked for me. I've been c diff free two years now, thankfully! My doc was a specialist in NYC (you can PM me for his name if you need it). I saw him after I relapsed a week after Flaygl and a week after Vanco and although my GI was great, I was desperate for someone who specialized in c diff.
I found the city doc and he put me on a 30-day taper of Dificid (10 days of 2 pills a day and 20 days of 1 pill a day) along with something called Enteragam (a medical food that is supposed to absorb c diff toxins and help heal the gut). I still have some minor IBS (before c diff I had guts of steel!), but otherwise cannot complain. I wish you the best! This is a great place for support.
