I have been off Vanco for 10 days. The first few days after stopping the Vanco I had almost normal looking stool. Then on day 6 had 5 bouts of diarrhea, day 7 only about 3 bouts of D, but some rectal bleeding as well, lots of abdominal cramping/pain. Day 8 and 9 pain and bleeding improved and only mild D. Now today I had D 6 times already. So, is this all normal and just how it goes or is the c-diff coming back? Should I call the doctor? If this is just how the recovery process goes how long can I expect this to last. I have missed so much work already, but with the frequent diarrhea it makes work a challenge! (I am an elementary school teacher and can't just leave the classroom when a bout of D comes along!) How do other people do it?
Appreciate any advice!
Is this normal or do I call the doctor?

It may be PI-IBS or food intolerances, but since you are working with children, I would call the doctor and see what he/she would like you to do. Usually about 14 days after taking meds, a test should be accurate.

Please call your doctor. That doesn't sound like IBS to me.

I also think you should see your doctor. This doesn't sound like typical IBS to me either, and bleeding should be checked out. Hopefully this isn't a relapse and you see improvement soon. If you are relapsing, you may want to discuss Dificid with your doctor.

The liquid D has continued today, so I did put in a call to the doctor shortly after lunch. Unfortunately it is now 7:00 p.m. and they did not return my call...plus its Friday night! I hope I am not waiting all weekend for a call back. Argh! I was feeling so positive after ending the Vanco and having 5 pretty good days without D, I did not want to admit that the c-diff was coming back. I have continued to take a probiotic since I first started on the Vanco, hopefully that is helping.

Agree , you must call your doctor , it looks like you are relapsing and delaying treatment , at this point it might not be a good ideea as symptoms can go south fast.If your doctor is unavailable in the weekend , and you feel ill , go to the ER.

UPDATE
I finally went back in on Monday and the C-diff is back. The doc put me back on Vanco again, starting with 125mg 4x/day for 14 days, then gradually tapering off over the next 7 weeks. Seems like a really long time to be on antibiotics, but when I look it up this seems to be the normal treatment. ☹️

Sounds like a similar taper to what I am doing. I am coming up to the end of 14 days of 4x day then go 1 week at each of the following: 3x day, 2x day and 1 x day p, then one pill every other day for 8 doses, then every three days for 8 doses. All at 125 mg. Good luck and I hope that we both are successful with this taper!

Sorry you tested positive again , it was obvious with those symptoms that you were experiencing a relapse. I'm hoping that this vanco taper will do the trick. Try a probiotic as well ,if you can tolerate it , might help !

Great point, Georgina. I should have also noted that I am doing kefir 2-3 times a day, florastor 2-3 times a day and 1 culrurelle a day. I was doing some of this the first time before I relapsed but have been much more disciplined this time. I have actually grown to like the kefir (life away, blueberry).

Yes, I am taking probiotics as well. Have been ever since the initial diagnosis. Thanks!

Benh, that is a lot that you are taking. You might want to cut down a little- maybe drop one of the Florastors and at least one of the kefir. I'm surprised you are not super gassy. But when you are in recovery it might affect your stool and confuse what is happening and what is causing it. Sometimes there is such a thing as too much.
