Vanco and Florastor

Postby Knitter » Fri Nov 18, 2005 3:22 am

Hi everyone: could you please tell me, how many of you take the Florastor at a different time from the Vanco? I have tried the pharmacist, but they didn't know and said they'd call back with an answer, but never did. I tried e-mailing the specialist, but she has not gotten back to me yet.

Please take the poll and let me know.

I took Florastor (then called S. boulardii) for two years without success. I was in their blind study and then on compassionate usage. I don't remember how far from the Vanco. I spaced it for if it was necessary to do so.

It has been OTC in Europe for years for GI upsets. A group of doctors here bought the rights. They went to France to "kick off the program," and several got diarrhea!

I don't think it accomplished the potential they hoped for it, but it has helped some people. Dr. Borody mentions it in his article on this site.

For more info. go to www.florastor.com. It's the site for Biocodex. It now manufactures the product. On the third or fourth page, there is a "contact us" box. You might also call Dr. Christina Surawitz at Harborview Med. Center. She is one of the doctors involved in the original program. Her contact info. is in Doctors.

Thanks for the info Bobbie. There is only one small problem. My name is not Marcia, and never has been Marcia. I will do more research into this and then decide what to do. Right now I am taking it one hour before the Vanco. The first few days I did this, I had ummmm flatulance, a lot of flatulance.

Sorry for mixing up names-- trying to answer too many questions at once. Edited answer.

That's ok Hon. I know you are trying your best and doing a great job. I would probably mix up a lot more than a name or two if I was doing your job.

If I didn't have here to come to, I would be a lot less knowledgable about this best, so I can forgive just about anything. After all, even my GP mixed me up with my sister.

Just keep doing such a great job providing somewhere for us to come and learn and vent and ask and read. Thanks so much Bobbie.

Reminder to everyone..........After contacting the florastor people I now know that if you have yeast allergy YOU SHOULD NOT take florastor. Many people are allergic to yeast and if you are not aware of allergy and take the florastor and have bad side affects STOP IT immediately.

My doctor told me that you can take Florastor anytime during the day. Since it is a yeast and survives Vanco in your colon....no problem. Vanco does not affect it.
