Oils Girl contributed this. Thx.
Doxy. did cause one of our posters to develop C. diff., however. Others have been able to take it w/o a problem. (My son -- C. diff. 2X -- is one.) Remember, it's a "crap shot" -- in many ways.

Sandy contributed this info. Thx., Sandy.
This just came in email today even though large list of meds is for month of December.
WARNING - Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea (CDAD) has been reported with use of nearly all antibacterial agents, including OMNICEF.
Lots of info on other meds like Prilosec, Children’s Advil Cold, etc.

Info. on Cipro and Similar Drugs
KristininVirginia posted this info. on Oct 22, 2011
One additional note about Cipro. Not only can it cause c diff, but it also causes LASTING tendon pain in your feet/legs, even for people who aren't avid runners to begin with. I was given Cipro early in my bout with c diff, and have since had to go to physical therapy twice a week because of the intense pain in my feet (achilles and plantar fascia). I used to run a half hour at a time several days a week, now I can walk for a half hour at a time but then am in pain the rest of the day. I may never fully recover...not sure how I will do all the traveling that I dream of doing, which requires walking and walking and walking all day. NEVER take Cipro (or any fluoroquinolone) unless your life is on the line! There is a research foundation looking into the side effects of these drugs: http://www.fqresearch.org/.

Fosfomycin Information
Postby shopgirl5 » Mon Jul 29, 2013 8:35 am
http://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/lo ... aad8155936
Please pay attention to the warnings and adverse reactions section.
Fosfomycin is an older medication that is resurfacing due to antibiotic resistance.
If you look at the adverse reactions graph it shows that it is 3-4 times more likely to cause diarrhea than Cipro or Bactrim. Macrobid is even higher than Cipro or bactrim on this data. THIS IS JUST DIARRHEA NOT CDIFF DATA PRESENTED IN THAT PORTION.
IMPORTANT: If you look it up on other sources it states to use with caution with recent antibiotic associated diarrhea. Nowhere does it give a reason. My Pharmacist Aunt also warned me that it states this.
I was told by ID that recurrent UTIs can be caused by a reservoir of bacteria, and that this and Cipro can clear reservoirs. I'm putting this here strictly for everyone's information.

Re: Antibiotics Most Likely to Cause C.Diff/Antibiotic Resis
csnider denoted this info. Her doctor was Dr. John Bartlett of John Hopkins. He is the doctor who discovered that oral vanco (previously an IV drug only) was effective against C. diff. This info saved my then 4-yr. old son's life in l979.

→ Low probability or no chance: Sulfonadmides, Mandelamine, Fosfomycin, Furadantin
→ Low probability: Sufla-trimethoprim, narrow spectrum beta lactam (such as penicillin, cefazolin), Macrolides (although recent data suggests these may no longer be safe), Tetracycline, Aminoglycosides
→ More risky, but relatively safe: Broad-spectrum beta lactams other than third-generation Cephalosporins, Carbapenems
→ High risk antibiotics to avoid: Clindamycin, Amoxicillin, Fluoroquinolones (Cipro, Levaquin), Third-generation Cephalosporins (ceftriaxone and cefotaxime)
