This is true for some. They become carriers, probably for life. Christina calls this "putting the diff to sleep"...good terminology.

Yes. The carrier state is NOT always sustainable. In other words, even those folks who end up with lurking spores have their immune systems boot them all out eventually. At this time, it is impossible to tell if you become a carrier temporarily, or for life.
Note: Studies have shown that folks who get cdiff again (not a relapse, but a separate bout - much later) are infected with a different strain about 30% of the time, therefore it is NOT the spores from the original infection that always causes a reoccurence. For that, individual immune response may play a more important role.
