CDIFF again - Newborn Stool

Postby rdm » Thu Jan 24, 2019 3:23 pm

Hi I had Cdiff in 2010 for 3 months. Flagyl and Vanco did not work. I was treated by the Barody clinic with antacids combined with their formulae of lactobacillus rhamnosis.

Fast forward 2019. I just came out of hospital with Acute Diverticulitis and was on on IV Antibiotics (Augmentin). Have Cdiff again. I see since 2010 a new antibiotic exists fidaxomicin.

I previously prepared for an FMT but did not do it when the probiotic prescribed by the clinic worked. I am thinking of doing FMT via enema. I have a 2.5 year old toddler and a 4 month newborn. Which faeces should I use toddler or newborn?

Neither!
Childrens stool is NOT suitable as doner stool and should never be considered, a Dr would never use it for FMT.
Their guts are not mature and their bacteria ballance and diversity is not the same as an adults.
You will give yourself all sorts of problems.
Its VERY likely your 4 month old is also carrying c.diff!
7 out of 10 kids that age are asymptomatic carriers.
If you have full on c.diff symptoms AND a positive test follow your Drs advice.
Dont self diagnose and definatly dont self treat/medicate.
