Hi guys,
My wife has Cdiiff since September and she took a lot of Vancomycin. Always it comes back after exactly a week when she leaves antibiotic. After unsuccessful treatment, doctor referred her for FMT.
She stopped Vancomycin last week and the day after she did FMT. It was like enema and a nurse did it for three days. I was a donor.
Unfortunately, it comes back again after a week of stopping antibiotic ( not FMT).
She is very sad and disappointed and I am very worried about here. She is 35. I cannot show my worried, because I know she has a lot of stress and we have a small toddler at home.
Do you have any idea about the next step and treatment?
Also, is it possible, it came back because of food or multivitamins. Or I thought maybe my stool didn't have enough bacteria.
She stopped diary when Cdiiff started. And after FMT she used Bio-K.
Many thanks and Merry Christmas
Unsuccessful FMT

Did you have a full stool screening test done before being her doner?

Sometimes more than one FMT is needed. That was the case for me. DId she actually test positive for c difficile or did the symptoms just come back without a test?

Thanks guys,
Your reply give a lot of hope that we are not alone.
Today, she went to the washroom and said I have an exact symptoms ( smell, texture and color). She didn't take a Cdiiff test, because every where was closed today.
She uses Bio K since she had FMT and when she drinks kefir, she gets worth.
Many thanks again for your comments.

Re: Unsuccessful FMT
Almost all Drs say NO PROBIOTICS after an FMT!
FMT is the ultimate probiotic and you should not add artificial foreign probiotics to the mix.
Theres a biological war going on in her gut and the good bacteria can still win.
The FMT is still growing so it's too soon to assume its failed.
Smell, texture, color, is not the full symptoms, FREQUENCY is the important one.
full on liquid watery D 3 or more times a day for 3 days in a row means c.diff might be back.
Anything less than that can be part of normal recovery.
I would cut out all probiotics including kefir.
Eat very bland and drink plenty of water.
Wait a couple of days and see if things improve (might be slowly improve, FMT is not a miracle cure, it can take quite some time to multiply and do its job ).
If she gets a lot worse go to your Dr.

Sorry Roy gonna have to disagree with you on this one your body needs prebiotic foods to help the good gut flora to flourish!! If it was me I would still be using bio k and sacc!!

Probiotics are supposed to help by crowding out the bad bacteria.
Problem is they can also take up space that the good bacteria wants to move into.
Prebiotics foods such as oatmeal possibly, but probiotics (that in no way are the ones that normaly reside in your gut) are not a good addition after FMT.
The aim is to restore the natural gut flora that will multiply and strengthen your immunity.
Probiotics only survive a few days, when you stop them they are gone within 48 hours.
Theory is that you do not interfere with the FMT by introducing temporary bacteria into your gut that might compete with the newly seeded gut flora.
For "probiotics" read it as gut biome altering medication, untested and unknown medication!

Thanks guys for your answers.
She took a lab test and we are waiting for the results, however, she is pretty sure that it cames back.
We have to call her GI doctor after holidays to follow up.
I wonder if it not another cure for Cdiiff?
If she has the same situation in the next one, what we should do? ;(

I would ask for a Dificid taper.

What is Dificid taper?
Is it medicine or antibiotic?

Dificid works, its expensive but it does work. I had 5 relapses over a year. I did fail the first 10 day course. Then I was on a taper of Dificid which finally worked.
Talk to your GI about it

Oh, really.
It is a great news for us if something works.
I thought it is not a final cure after FMT.
I hope she can get rid of it.
Thanks
