5x Fecal Enema, 7 months ago.

Hey Folks.

It's been a while since I was last on here, but I thought I would delay posting until I had some concrete answers. And while they're still not 100% rock solid, I figured now is a better time than any to post about my FMT experience.

I had FMT enemas starting on the 9th of October 2017, to treat a saga that started on 26th October 2016. I was treated under the guise of someone trained under Thomas Borody, who gave me the option of FMT via Colonoscopy, followed by 5 days of FMT enemas. I refused the colonoscopy, under the agreement that I would submit to one if I got another positive test. We agreed that this was the best treatment for me, and we proceeded with a course of Vancomyacin, followed by 5 days of FMTs via enema, self administered, from an anonymous screened donor.

To say I felt a difference immediately was an understatement. I tested for CDIFF maybe 3-4 weeks after the FMT (unsure exact time), and I received my first ever NEGATIVE test, the tears streaming from my eyes where nothing short of a waterfall.

I was placed on a course of probiotics and SB following the treatment, the probiotics ran out maybe 3-4 months ago, and I'm still taking SB.

I visited my specialist a few weeks ago, and his assessment was "No followup review". I've been instructed to ride through the rough days, and slowly taper off the SB once things slow down a bit too much.

If anyone is still contemplating this procedure, and is unsure whether to take it, don't hesitate to find a doctor who knows about it, specializes in it, and will be willing to assess you and help you come to a decision. I cannot stress enough how many GPs I've talked to that had a negative view on this procedure or don't even know protocols. One GP in Australia told me he'd rather see me wearing diapers through my 30's and waiting for it to pass, then getting it done. (because one years worth of failed treatment wasn't enough waiting). If you're in Melbourne, Australia, please drop me a line and I will tell you where I got it done.

I've been told I have PI-IBS. Consistency, predictability and other indicators are all better. I have other indicators that haven't changed, that I've been told will probably stay. My particular case has been a nightmare, with no ever definitive answer.

I've had bad unexplained episodes every now and again (once a month?). I get Pain + Bristol 6/7 at the worst of it. But M is down and color is near perfect most of the time. Each time an episode happens I fear that I have an underlying issue. It's a funny feeling to be given the "no followup review" assessment, I was happy on the day, and you would expect that it would be liberating, but it's still a rocky road, and I'm learning that slowly. I remind myself of what could have been, and try to find strength in that idea.

I plan to be optimistic about improved symptoms over the next 6 months, and hopefully never having to visit the DR. again. I've been a lurker on here for quite a while, and probably will be for the rest of my life. I wish all of us recurrent sufferers the best of health, and hope this disease leads to a cure for IBD and the official shutdown of this forum.

Namaste.

Hello! I remember you well and I am so happy to hear you are CDIFF Free!!

I also appreciate the update, what worked for you and the current issues you are dealing with. I think there are many of us tough cases that have after effects ( Post IBS) among other issues for awhile.

Wishing you continued health!
