After more than (4) months C Diff I'm scheduled to see a G.I. doc next week 3/13/18 about colonoscopy/FMT combo with my 50+ year old daughter as the fecal donor.
Any suggestions?
Anyone else here had family donations and success stories?
thanks

Hi and Welcome to the site Please read the first thread for all new posters
If you look under FMT there are alot of posters who have had family donations. My husband was ready to donate after going through testing. We were set to go but I was on a DIficid taper at the time which worked so it was not necessary. Do speak with your GI about the process and eing on medication prior to the procedure.
Good Luck!

Good choice. It works for most.
Ask the doc about eating fiber after the procedure. Probiotics is another "iffy" subject. Most docs do not encourage their use after an FMT.

She should be the perfect choice.
She got most of her gut flora from you so chances are it's a closer match than using anyone else or a stool bank.
Also you know her health history but don't forget she also needs thorough testing to make sure she does not have any "nasties" that could be transferred to you.

Colonoscopy/FMT combo scheduled for March 28, 2018. . . with a Chicago area G.I. doc who has performed more than 50 with a 100% success rate, according to him Tues 3/38. They purchase frozen "transplants" from a California lab. I will begin the pre-colonoscopy flushing by a liquid diet, then the meds (all over the counter) on 3/27 final treatment 6:30 the morning of the procedure.
Our lovely daughter will drive us to/from the procedure - am required to be there 1 hr prior - procedure 30 mins max - 1hr recovery approx - so am very thankful for her offer.
Doc stated he places the transplant up into the small intestine and will "fill me" with Immonium, fully expecting it to stay in place for 2-3 days, which is his hope - ours also.
I cannot imagine a day or two w/o going.
Multiple times.
Further, I'm to stop Vancomycin on 3/20 hopefully to never take it again.
We came away from that visit filled with more hope than before.
And we are trusting Him.

Re: Family Donated FMT?
You might want to book a hotel close to the hospital for the night before the colonoscopy and the night following the FMT.
OR have a very large bucket in the car!
No way are you going to make a car journey if your undergoing a colonoscopy prep and taking the last dose at 6.30 in the morning!
Most people do not hold the transplant in for more than a few hours and some for no more than an hour and that's normal.
Trust your Dr but be prepare to be permenently attached to your toilet for several hours during the prep and for a while after you come around:-)

I'm 84 and had multiple colonoscopies - was not due for another for 5 more years - except for this very necessary clean out so the FMT will stay in place.
thanks

Re: Family Donated FMT?
I had FMT using my husband the first time and it gave me a lot of IBS type symptoms afterwards. 'For the next one, I used my daughter and did not have this happen. Some doctors believe that blood relatives are best. In my case, that was true. Good luck to you with the FMT.
