Fillings after FMT

Postby okaylo » Fri Oct 28, 2016 5:37 pm

I had my 2nd FMT a little over 3 weeks ago. I was long overdue for a teeth cleaning and although I shuddered at the mere thought of going to the dentist, I gathered up the courage and went anyway. Turns out, I need to have some cavities filled. My question is: Is it safe to have this done after the FMT? The dental assistant told me it's okay but I just want to check in with everyone else. I am also going to ask my GI doctor as well. I can't see why it wouldn't be but I'm a nervous Nelly right now.

Yes, it is fine as far as I know, but you can always call the doctor who did the FMT and ask. You don't get any antibiotics with fillings, only a shot of anesthetic like novocaine and that won't give you c difficile. Better have them filled so that the teeth don't get worse and need root canals, etc.

Having a cavity filled and a teeth cleaning won't expose you to Cdiff , just don't take any antibiotic even if the dentist prescribes it.

Agree. Should not be a problem.

Thanks everyone. Spoke with the doc and he said I'm okay to have the cavities filled and antibiotics are only given with gum work etc. Everything just seems more like a big deal once you've been on this journey.

I had the same fear after my FMT. I had 2 small fillings done about 2 months post FMT and was just fine. My nerves were worse then the drilling!
