I wanted to address some of your site questions, it does concern me that people are proceeding with HPI in desperation may not be doing it correctly…that worries me!
We never recommend using children as donors. Their flora is not mature & therefore incomplete.
The stool must be fresh, not stored in the fridge.
We recommend a 10 day antibiotic prep before the bowel flush on day 11, followed by the first infusion. We NEVER place pts on antibiotics during or after transplant.
It is important to do SOME antibiotic prep prior to infusing, whether it be Vanco, Flagyl or Rifaximin.
There is a risk of perforation if the rectal tip is introduced in a rough manner, however the tips are very soft so I can’t imagine it happening….but anything is possible.
