My Story

Postby Bigsmile » Fri Sep 23, 2011 9:36 pm

Hello.....I am a 34yr old female

First and foremost I would like to thank everybody on this forum. :). Without this group I have no idea where I would be today! This support group is amazing!!

It all started beginning of this year Jan 2011. Although when I think back I had small symptoms before that which was different times in 2010 which included dizziness and D. Anyways.... In mid December 2010 I came down with which my doc thought was the flu\bronchitis. No tests done of course but she gave me the Z-pack which I took the year before and was fine. This last time was different.....one late night in Jan I all of sudden was terribly dizzy, couldnt focus and felt like Icouldnt breathe. Btw... We were out of town in a hotel room for a conference my husband had for work. I thought I was going to be relaxing :(. The next day I told my husband he had to rush me home because I just didnt feel right.) I went to my primary dr and she prescribed me Cipro for symptoms I described but no tests done. OMG!!! I swear I got sicker. Before I finished the med I landed in the Er for severe dehydration, pain and D. There they did tests and thats when I found out I had the dreaded C-diff. So they prescribed Flagyl for 2weeks. Yuck!! It gave me horrible side effects. 4 days after finishing I relapsed and landed in hospital again for them to give me 2more weeks of Flagyl.

Long story short.... I ended up having 3 relapses with Flagyl then I finally took matters into my own hands found this support group started on probiotics... Which was Culterelle, Florastor and Natures Trinity and Kefir. I also dropped my primary dr and found another thAt referred me to my GI specialist who ordered a colonoscopy that same week. Im fortunate to say it found nothing except for the C-diff infection still there. She put me on Vanco for 2 weeks and thats the last antibiotic I had to be on. My infection lasted 2 1/2 months but felt like forever. It did take me these last 6 months to recover and finally feel GOOD!! Oh yea.... My GI doc said I had a mild to moderate case. I never had any bleeding.....thank god. Me and my husband just got back from San Francisco for our 9th anniversary!! It felt good to be healthy. My kids love me being normal mom again not sick mom.

Anybody suffering from this awful disease...believe what you read here and dont give up. Have lots of Faith because you will beat it... It just takes time!! I had alot of tears!!! But now I have alot more smiles!!! Thanks to God and this support group.

P.s. I can never take Flagyl ever again!!!

Congratulations on your complete recovery!!! I just love success stories!!!! Equally important, I admire individuals that know when to fire their physicians. It’s your body, it’s your future and it’s definitely your choice. Again, Congratulations!!!!!!
I ask not for a lighter burden, but for broader shoulders.

Congrats on your success, and thanks for posting. Many on this site don't let us know when they recover, but it is so encouraging when people tell us of their success.

Glad the site was helpful. Best to you, and keep in touch occasionally to encourage others.

Hi Big Smile,
Congratulations on getting well and thank you for sharing. It's so encouraging to read success stories!! I have a question: Did you continue to take your probiotics during your Vanco treatment and afterwards?

Wishing you continued good health!!
