Cured by bifidobacterium infantis & lactobacillus sporogenes

We spend a lot of time talking about the bad news in this discussion group - here's the spot for the good news. If you've had c-diff and are now well, please tell us about it here.

MIke,
Congrats. on your success. What probiotic contained these "good" bacteria?

I used a bottle of lactobacillus sporogenes manufactured by thorne research, and align which I purchased off amazon.

Using the pills as culture starters for milk, not actually taking the pills directly.

As far as I can tell I am as normal as I was before the c.diff started after a round of antibiotics. I am not experiencing any issues whatsoever.

That is awesome! I have to ask do you see any occasional M? or absolutely nothing?

I don't know what occasional M means. But all the c. diff related symptoms have ceased.

Hi Mike,

I feel as if my problem is similar to yours. Antibiotics do not seem to be doing anything for me except making me sicker. I therefore want to try the "natural" route so to speak.

You say that you made milk cultures until all the capsules ran out . . . Was that a month or more until your digestive tract returned to pre-c.diff conditions? Also, how many capsules did you put in the milk? Did you put one b. infantis in one glass of milk and 1 capsule of lactobacillus sporogenes into another glass of milk? And how much milk did you use/drink?

Thanks,
Rachel

Hi Mike,

I am intrigued by your success! Congratulations!

What prompted you to open the capsules into milk? Did you try swallowing the pills without success? I ask because I'm about to go out and buy these strains as I cannot tolerate antibiotics anymore (they are killing me along with c.diff). I'm leary of making my own "culture" from the capsule (just my paranoid nature). And I don't have the typical c.diff...I have diarrhea as soon as I stop Florastor, otherwise it's long and thin (smelly) stool...and I have tremendous right sided pain which feels like my bowel is going to explode!

How long did it take you to feel better with the infantis and sporogenes?

Also, I can't find bifidobacterium infantis all by itself. Did you use a multi-strain probiotic with infantis within?

Thanks a lot for your reply!

Sean

Thank you, Roy. I wish I had "talked" with you when I got c.diff over a year ago. I was so confused and sick by the time I was diagnosed, three months after I got it, that I made some very bad choices. I was so scared to take the antibiotic, flagyl, that I ended up going to a naturopath that didn't know much about c.diff and I ended up delaying my treatment. It has been a mess! I agree with Roy. Get a good doctor and get treatment! I'm still hoping to get healthy again..... it's been a long series of mistakes for me.... :(

Thank you for the reality check Roy. I was hoping there was some miracle natural cure. :(

I'm happy to hear your comment about over doing probiotics, that is my main concern about trying to tackle this beast naturally. When I was in the hospital last week, the ID doctor warned me about taking too many probiotics could rupture your colon. Your right that we need to listen to our bodies. It's just so hard when we are dead tired and wired because our bodies will not let us rest...I'm looking and grasping on anything that could possibly cure this without the big gun antibiotics. I was in the hospital last week due to a Vancomycin reaction (still experiencing) ringing in the ears, ear pain, swollen neck/throat, severe abdominal pain, increased diarrhea (now subsided), swollen joints. And I'm allergic to Flagyl. Like everyone, I wish this would end. I have a CT scan tomorrow...don't know what it will show but I hope it sheds some light on this abdominal pain.

When I first had severe diarrhea, I was taking 5 florastor a day...now I'm down to 2 or 3 a day. On the days I take 2, I have diarrhea. So if anything, the florastor is a great binding agent!

Thanks again for your comment! It's much appreciated especially when I feel so alone in this battle!

Some doctors treat with Xifaxan as well, especially if you can't take the other antibiotics. Xifaxan was hard on my system, but it isn't for everyone. Some people don't have any problems with it. Alinia is another antibiotic that works against some, but not all strains of c diff. You might ask your doctor about these meds if you need to go back on antibiotics, and hopefully you won't. I think the infantis probiotic is what is in Alinia - not sure if it is the only one though. Good luck.

The reason I chose to culture my own yogurt type drink using milk is because most of the bacteria in pills and powders is dead, if you culture your own yogurt with milk it will multiply the dose of live bacteria getting into your GI track by billions. This is the only viable method I am aware of to get enough in your system to actually do anything.

I am guessing I drink maybe a glass of each per day sometimes more. You can use pints of milk or you can make it by the gallon or half gallon and cap the lid on whatever works for you.

I feel probably the L. Sporogenes had the most effect as it is a spore forming bennifical bactiera, fight a bad spore forming bacteria with a good one. :)

It is repetitively easy to make you own yogurt using milk and a tablespoon of existing yogurt as a starter. Lots of people eat home made yogurt and don't get sick.

When you buy pills of bacteria 99.99% of them are dead, using them as a starter for a yogurt culture is exactly how the manufactures for yogurt make their product.

I can say honestly this worked for me, and I am C. Diff free now.

Home made yogurt using L. Sprogenes was a miracle cure for me and I suffered many years with horrible C.Diff infection that antibiotics could not touch.
I'd be willing to bet large amounts of money it would have the same effect on other people here with Chronic Cdiff infections.

Making your own yogurt is not dangerous despite what you have heard, you can google it and see many recipes and instructions on how to do it safely.
