90 Days and Counting

We spend a lot of time talking about the bad news in this discussion group - here's the spot for the good news. If you've had c-diff and are now well, please tell us about it here.

90 Days and Counting

Postby ldyhawkem » Fri Aug 24, 2007 8:33 pm

It's been 90 days since my last Vancocin and I saw my doctor this morning. Although I have experienced some bad days, they have certainly been nothing like the C-Diff active days. There are days when no matter what I eat I feel bloated, I get indigestion and go to rice, scrambled eggs and other easy-to-digest foods. I have continued my regimen of six VSL#3 a day and have now been given the go ahead to slowly reduce that number to four a day for the next three weeks and then to try two a day afterwards. He does want me to remain on the two a day until I see him in another 90 days. Activia was also recommended although I have eaten so much yogurt in the last year, I almost can't stand it now. Nevertheless, I will most certainly get a supply and make myself eat it even if I have to disguise it with cinnamon or something I like that is harmless!

Since I have had good luck with my GI specialist, I was asked to get his permission to post his name, address and phone number. I talked to him this morning about doing so and he said it is all right with him. He just wanted me to be sure and add that although he continues to be highly concerned and on call for anyone with C-Diff, he doesn't have any magic bullets. What he does have is concern and care for his patients and the willingness to try about anything he can think of or the patient can think of and he is never too busy to take time to talk to you. Therefore, listed below is his name, address and phone number:

Richard A. Geisman, M.D.
Gastroenterology
1301 Boone's Lick Road
St. Charles MO 63301
(636) 947-3392

Best of luck to everyone here. Since I took a part time job to help pay for the VSL#3, I haven't had a lot of time to stay up to date on the forum, but my prayer is everyone here feels much better soon and that they come up with a new drug for this horrid disease that just keeps on giving!

Many blessings to all.
Marnie

Ldyhawkem - very glad you're feeling better and thank you so, so much for the doctor referral. St. Charles Missouri is a location that would be hard to find a name for! I've posted his particulars in the "Doctors" section.

ldyhawkem, Congratulations on getting to the 90 day mark, and that you found a great physician to work with you.

Have a question for you: Were you taking 6 VSL#3 sachets a day? The sachets, not the caps (which are half the dose)? And for several months? It sounds you did very well on that dose / level.

We have posted about this before, how much one can, or should take, and also because it is so expensive. The most we seem to take is 2 sachets a day. So, I am very interested in and very impressed with your approach, and that it worked this well. That would be super high-dose probiotics!

Marnie

Congratulations on making the 90 day mark. That is great news!

And how nice you found such a good doctor. Many, like myself, struggle with that.

If I remember, you were taking the capsules (half the dose of packets), is that right? So 6 capsules would be the same as 3 packets or sachets?

Anyway, good for you. I had been wondering how you were doing.

Nan
