approaching 1 year cdiff free!!

Postby code3rn » Thu Mar 26, 2015 7:04 pm

Hi all-

Just wanted to post here as I am rapidly approaching my 1 year cdiff free mark! I had an FMT done in May 2014 after dealing with cdiff for over 6 months after the birth of my daughter. The FMT was the best decision I ever made. It truly gave me my life back. If anyone is struggling and needs some support, please message me! I am happy to answer any questions or reassurance.

I just wanted to share something else that has helped me in my recovery journey. This is by no means an endorsement for this book, just a personal review and how it helped me. Always talk to your doctor before starting any diet.

This January my husband started a diet to lose weight. It is from a book called "The zero belly diet" by David Zinczenko. It's interesting because the first part of the book talks about feeding the good bacteria in your gut! Much like we always talk about in this forum and from my GI specialists. So I found that part of the book interesting to read and his research on the bacteria and GI connection.
The diet is essentially what many GI specialists recommended for those with P-IBS; a diet that is gluten free and dairy free. I really thought the diet wouldn't work, I had always thought that salads and roughage make my stomach worse since having c.diff. Initially all the fiber and veggies did mess with me a little bit, but after a few days I felt great. When I follow the plan, I have almost NO stomach issues at all. I hate that to truly feel great I have to limit the foods that I eat. But I have accepted that for now it is better for me to eat this way.

I have since reverted back to my old eating habits from recent vacations, and I can tell the difference in my stomach immediately. So I will try to conitnue to eat gluten and dairy free when I can. Just wanted to share those little tidbits in case anyone wanted to read about how good bacteria affects the gut, and give a review of how the gluten free, dairy diet worked for me. I know everyone is unique and may not benefit from the same diet. But for me, it is fantastic and I cannot say enough good things about it. I have more energy, no bloating, loose BM's, or bad stomach days (when i actually follow the diet of course).

I hope i never have to endure the nightmare of Cdiff again. I know that because I still work in the hospital, that the odds of it occuring again are higher than most. But at least I know that there are ways to cope and eventually beat this stressful and horrific disease. Best of luck to all and well wishes!

Congrats on your one year anniversary, Jess. Thx for the info on the book. I need to lose some weight so might get the book. Unfortunately, I now love desserts - because I shouldn't have them.

Dont't know how you work with two little kids. How are your girls?

Congrats again, and thx for your help as a moderator.
