Maybe sometimes we should stop listening to the MDs

Since c-diff is a disease of the "lower half", so to speak, we find that many of our members cannot refrain from discussing what comes out the bottom end. If you must do it, please do it here.

Maybe sometimes we should stop listening to the MDs

Hi all,

Wanted to share a progress note that involves blood and stool colors, so I thought it better go here! <LOL>

I've talked about my ongoing bleeding problem in other posts, so I'll leave it at that. Saw my GI guy last Friday, and he admitted he didn't have a clue what was going on (to his credit, he did urge a 2nd opinion with an internist or inf. disease specialist). He said the test results said I wasn't infected. I said that when the mucous comes back, the smell is a knock out, and the stools turn to mush, I know there's C. diff around. He told me he agreed with me subjectively but couldn't make that diagnosis objectively. He mentioned halting all the meds (Vanco, Imodium, Questram), since nothing had really done anything--I decided to wait out the Vanco taper.

Saturday morning, tho, I dumped the Vanco and haven't looked back. I'm following rsprenkle's probiotic protocol--adding a prebiotic and traditional kefir--and by Wednesday my stools were once again formed, of normal size, almost devoid of mucous, AND the black (blood) was GONE. I almost danced when I saw brown in the bowl! Unbelievably, I went from 9 BMs on Friday to ONE today. What's more, for the first time in the 7 weeks since my bowel resection surgery, I feel energy!!!

I can't tell you how thrilled I am, but I'm only 3 days into this euphoria. In the past it took the C. diff 4 days off antibiotics to relapse. Something inside me feels this is it, though. I can't prove it's due to pre- and probiotics, but something sure changed fast.

Here's to hope and thanks for support. Let us all be well.
Paolo

Paolo
I get all the same symptoms but I have IBS not c-diff. I would freakout everytime I would start to get the symptoms but have learned to calmdown a bit cause it always changes. Thats how IBS works. My symptoms are the exact as when I had c-diff but have been neg for c-diff for quite awhile now.

I dont know what to think. This month will be 5 months off meds but I started getting this pain again. Its not as severe but its there and doesnt seem to want to leave. I took myself off the Lotronex to see if my stools go soft enough to test again. My doctor will probably think Im a freak but its always in the back of my mind.
