Normal recovery?

Since c-diff is a disease of the "lower half", so to speak, we find that many of our members cannot refrain from discussing what comes out the bottom end. If you must do it, please do it here.

Normal recovery?

Postby phir91 » Fri May 08, 2020 5:42 am

Hello!

I hope you are all managing as best as can be through COVID. I have posted before... I am a 29 year old that contracted cdiff following lots of antibiotics including co-amoxiclav. I had one round of flagyl and relapsed after 3 days... I then went on a 14 day course of vanco and have been off it for 3 weeks today. For the past week every morning I have had one mushy semi-formed stool (1BM a day)... is this normal in recovery? Feels odd to have gone from formed firm stools for 2 weeks to this! I am terrified of relapsing and don’t want anymore antibiotics. I am aware of the three day rule so I guess it’s just wait and watch? Has anyone experienced the same and come out the other side OK?

If it is only one time a day, it doesn't sound like a relapse. You might want to ask your doctor about testing you for vitamin and mineral deficiencies. I was low on vitamin D and when I started supplementing, my stools firmed up. Some vitamin deficiencies can affect the GI tract.

Thanks Beth22, I will have a discussion with my Dr about vitamin deficiencies..will perhaps start to add some to my daily routine and see what happens. Hopefully things get a bit more normal in the coming months as opposed to worse... I’m just within that worrying window which makes me feel I’m treading on egg shells!

The following Study at university of Michigan, suggests the Calcium Supplement , will create the right environment for the C-Diff Spores to germinate and come out and infect the host.

When using multivitamin I will try to find one that does not have Calcium ..
