It doesn't stink

Since c-diff is a disease of the "lower half", so to speak, we find that many of our members cannot refrain from discussing what comes out the bottom end. If you must do it, please do it here.

It doesn't stink

Postby Whyme111 » Sat Dec 08, 2018 3:35 pm

Hi,
I'm 17 weeks out from my treatment, yet my stool continues to be odorless. IF there is any odor, it carries a sweet sort of scent.... Nothing like a "normal" odor. What is this about? Thanks!

I have never heard anyone complain about their poop not smelling!
I wouldn’t worry as long as appearance if fine.

No complaints, just inquiring. It is a noticeable difference compared to before this illness. Since my post, I did a search and came across quite a bit of posts regarding this topic though.

How would you know what "normal" smell is?
An apple that smells like a banana is still an apple!
If it looks normal it probably is normal.

When I took vanco, it wiped out the smell completely. It did not return until after I had FMT. I noticed this happened about the second day of taking vanco.

I don't think a change in smell is unusual especially when your on Vanco or FMT which completely wipes you out. My stool smells completely different than it did pre CDiff and Vanco. I imagine our gut flora is pretty different after all our systems have been through. I'd try not to inspect your BMs too carefully. It'll drive you crazy!

While on antibiotic treatment for cdiff my bm’s Had zero smell. When I passed gas there was zero smell, and for that matter I rarely passed gas at all! It was very odd. Also, my stomach was very deflated. It was literally like my entire gut system was completely inactive. I also noticed that these symptoms improved after my FMT as the new bacteria started doing their jobs. I’m 17 weeks post FMT and am still dealing with loose bm’s, light M, and occasional fatigue. Recovery is tough for sure!!
