undigested food in stool

Since c-diff is a disease of the "lower half", so to speak, we find that many of our members cannot refrain from discussing what comes out the bottom end. If you must do it, please do it here.

undigested food in stool

Postby kristi11 » Tue Aug 29, 2017 12:19 pm

I've had recurrent c diff for 3 months and now I'm noticing undigested food in the toilet. It's not every time but it is happening. I have PI-IBS so I'm wondering if it's just part of it. Should I stop eating a food if I see it's not being digested?

Some foods are never digested like corn, peas, mushrooms. I would not worry about it, but ask your doctor if it is of concern.

I would say that depends on the food. If it is vegetables with insoluble fiber, like corn and such already mentioned then don't worry. Also, I think we all become way more observant post c Diff. For me nothing has been the same since.

After Cdiff I also found that some foods that I could digest in the past , now are coming out undigested : red peppers , apples, leafy greens etc.

Check with a Dr if it's worrying you but 6 months ago you would not have given something like that a second thought, probably not even looked!

I agree with the others - I never digested leafy greens after c-diff. Also, most of us have fast transit time in early recovery, so that may have something to do with it. I would also voice your concern with your GI, but I don't think it's unusual.

I had a scare last week and about a week and a half before that where I saw Undigested foods. it's concerning to me when it's happened but the difference is after a few days it goes back to normal. I'm sure it's happened to me a hundred times before c diff and I never gave it a second thought. Some things I have issues with one time but not another time. And I almost always see tomatoes. I had chicken paprikash last week and the next day. But had forgotten I'd eaten it when I noticed about 100 small red dots making a return. Panic! Then remembering.
We've got to get to that point where we stop over analyzing and go by the motto if it feels right don't give it sight. Definitely ask a GI about it and I'm sure they will put your mind at ease. Pi ibs is no fun

Haha! Thanks everybody. I am officially 3 weeks off my 3rd round of antibiotics and just praying it doesn't come back. I got a nasty case of PI-IBS and am sticking to sweet potatoes, brown rice noodles, a little butter and salt, chicken turkey and lean beef. I tried putting onion in the beef and that is what didn't digest, nor skin on the sweet potatoes...

Skin of potatoe is insoluble fiber , it will always come out undigested.
