Mucus

Since c-diff is a disease of the "lower half", so to speak, we find that many of our members cannot refrain from discussing what comes out the bottom end. If you must do it, please do it here.

Mucus

Postby Rockstar » Sun Jul 17, 2016 7:45 pm

Hi all - I've read through posts on this site for the past two years but have never posted. I have been CDiff free for 13 months. I've had countless PCR tests done in this time frame, the last test being done 3 weeks ago - all have been negative. I've also had comprehensive stool analysis' all coming up normal. That being said, my tell tale sign of active CDiff was always an extreme urge "to go" and pass only mucus. In severe cases, I'd have extreme abdominal pain and a lot of D but ALWAYS the passing of solely mucus (or pus?). I've passed mucus without stool several times since being CDiff free but I'm finding within the last month or so, I've had more episodes of these "urges" and then the passing of pure mucus. Has anyone else ever experienced this, all while being CDiff free? I feel like if it was PI-IBS, my symptoms would be getting better - not worse? I haven't taken an antibiotic in over a year, I'm not on any medication besides a multivitamin and probiotic (all have been the same for the entire year, nothing new). No one has or is ill in my house and nor have I been exposed to anyone who is ill (nor have I been in a hospital setting). My diet is bland and hasn't changed, I'm afraid to introduce new foods into my diet because of the toll CDiff has had on me mentally. Has anyone tested positive for CDiff this far out, without having any of the increased risks of testing positive?

Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. I believe one of the moderators was diagnosed with mucus colitis post C diff and was able to improve by using benefiber every day. If your symptoms have been the same since you last tested it's probably unlikely that you have C diff. I would see what your doctor thinks about benefiber or other fiber products. Do you have allergies or do you get hives? I take antihistamines every day because I have a mast cell disorder, and it really affects my upper respiratory tract, skin, and most annoyingly my GI tract.

Thanks for the response, I haven't tried Benefiber so I will look into that. No allergies except for...Flagyl, ha.

Hello Rockstar and welcome to the site. Please read the first thread which has information on the site for all new posters
The recovery period is different for everyone. I don't know how long you were treated for CDIFF but in my case I was treated for 10 months and the recovery has been slow and long.
Have you gone over your symptoms with your GI? If everything has been ruled out, maybe they would consider one of the medications for IBS. I have been on Levsin on and off Post CDIFF. I have also had to add to my diet carefully or the IBS can really act up. Have you noticed things get worse with certain foods? I try small amounts slowly. Some go back to a normal diet right away so much of this is individual. When you mentioned it does get worse, that was my thought.
It sounds like you have been testing negative for everything which makes it very difficult when symptoms continue.
Hope you feel better soon

I am the one with the Mucous Colitis and it is very scary. I had these attacks of just passing mucous and then slowly go to stool. Rinse repeat, every few days. Went to a Colo- Rectal Specialist and he recommended Metamucil. It helped very much and it slowly went away. It just means the colon is irritated and it was a side effect gift from my many bouts of CDiff. It went away totally so try and calm down and I'm sure you will be fine. It is very scary, I so understand that but try not to worry. YOu should get it checked though, just to be on the safe side. The Dr. does a mini scope in the office which for me was painless and I'm so glad I went. GI had told me it wasn't anything to worry abuot but I wanted another opinion. Hope this makes you feel better and hope the mucous goes away soon. Benefiber is good also, whatever works for you. Let us know how you do and best of luck.

Everytime I was having a relapse , at least 48 h prior to it I was suffering from the urge to go and mucus attacks with gas , at least 7 times per day , after that the cramps and D would start.
