So sorry you're dealing with c diff, rei099. Roy gave great wording about the tapering. I, too, would seek out GI well versed in c diff who can put you on a Vanco taper and/or pulse or Dificid or Dificid taper and/or pulse if needed (after relapsing twice I sought out a c diff specialist in NYC who put me on a taper of Dificid and, thankfully, have been fine since - for a little more than a year now). As far as how you got it - c diff is fecal/oral meaning the actual spore is accidentally ingested (most commonly from touching contaminated surfaces in hospitals/nursing homes/doctor's offices and then touching the mouth...but c diff can really be found anywhere). It can become part of your normal flora (you don't even know you carry it) but antibiotics, acid reflux medications and oral steroids can make it active. Do you use any creams with antibiotics like the clindamycin one some folks use for acne? Those have also been implicated. As Roy mentioned, you could've picked up/ingested the c diff from your hospital visit (or had ingested it previously) and the Cipro made it active. But no matter how you got it, try not to worry (as hard as it is, I know). You WILL get better. And you've found an awesome place for support. : )
Blessings,
Nikki

Re: The signs it never went away...
Thank you again :') I must gotten it sometime between my first and fourth cipro pill.It appears to be a high offender. You would think, having it once before, I would be familiar with the experience, but today, I am having terrible pain on my left side that's completely new. The first time around was mild in comparison. And now, I just had a bloody BM of pure white M, for the first time. At least I think it was M. It is making me uncomfortable just thinking about it. Looks like some dropped a Hollywood prop in my toilet from the next Alien movie :/

Is your doctor giving you a referral to a GI doctor? Terrible pain is concerning. If it continues you may need to go back to the ER. I'm not trying to scare you but you may need to be seen before tomorrow. You said you live right by a medical campus? Like a medical school? They should have a GI resident working around the clock.

Stay away from sushi and uncooked meats.
Cipro is a big offender. See CDI. - Antibiotics.
See CDI - Pulse dosing and Tapering.

I like to inform everyone dealing with cdiff of a misconception. Clorox wipes do not contain bleach which is needed to kill cdiff. I have not found any wipes available in stores that contain bleach. Please use bleach mixed with some water (I think it’s 1/3 bleach to 2/3 water) available online. Clorox wipes do not contain bleach

This thread you have written on is from 2016, you may want to start a new thread.
Clorox does sell a Healthcare Germicidal Bleach wipe we mention here on the site often. I used them with gloves during the time I had CDIFF, I still use them on and off for cleaning. The bleach solution use mention works well also, I like using the wipes especially when I was so ill.
I purchased them on Amazon

It should be 1 bleach to 9 water. That is, you are diluting the bleach 1:10

That bleach mixture would be harmful and corrosive!
That strength could eat holes into textiles within minutes!
I have always preferred home mixed bleach and consider it the best but the Clorox germicidal wipes mentioned here DO contain bleach.
I cant see a connection between your "quote" from Georgina post and your message about wipes though.

Re: The signs it never went away...
Thanks for the responses. Just really wanted to put it out there that Clorox wipes, and wipes you see in the stores generally contain no bleach. A lot of people out there are under the misconception that they contain bleach and, therefore, kill cdiff spores. I have purchased bleach wipes on amazon. Thanks
