Testing mucus

Since c-diff is a disease of the "lower half", so to speak, we find that many of our members cannot refrain from discussing what comes out the bottom end. If you must do it, please do it here.

Testing mucus

Postby susant » Tue Dec 01, 2015 4:04 pm

Hey!

I'm in the process of doing a 30 day dificid taper. I have a question though... has anyone tested only mucus by pcr and gotten a negative? My pcr was positive but it was mucus with no stool. I don't think it was incorrect as it cleared up after dificid but it seemed to be clearing up before I started dificid so now I'm confused. It doesn't matter at this point because I've already started the taper but just curious if mucus messes with pcr.

When I first got c diff, I also tested just M and it was positive. In the last few years, I have tested a couple of times when I had a lot of M and it was negative. So, both are possible. M does not always mean a positive test or that it is c diff.

I tested just blood and mucus and it came back positive by PCR.
