poo leakage when running

Since c-diff is a disease of the "lower half", so to speak, we find that many of our members cannot refrain from discussing what comes out the bottom end. If you must do it, please do it here.

poo leakage when running

Postby GCTrailRunner » Tue Jan 13, 2015 8:48 pm

I have always had some intestinal issues when I ran long races - longer than 20 or so miles. Well the last two years it didn't matter what distance I run, two miles will cause some leakage. Any ideas of what the issue might be? Of course now since I have had cdiff I am more concerned about spores getting on my clothes even though I tested negative about 2 months ago. I feel as if when I have a BM not everything comes out which is the reason I am having problems. Has anyone else had issues with this? If so, is there something that helped? I love running and after being sick with this crud and not being able to function like a normal human being while sick....running makes me feel like my normal self again.

I think this might be what some drs call a "pelvic floor" issue. Some recommend biofeedback exercises. Another possibility: try a fiber supplement such as Metamucil. It now comes in wafers as well as powder form.

Thanks AllisS - My midwife had mentioned possibly trying Metamucil 8 months ago and I never tried it. After having C-Diff - I was afraid of using anything that might give me D but it is worth trying. Running is something I really love and if I continue to have issues (even with really low mileage) I am not sure what I will do. It keeps me sane.

My GI recommended a fiber supplement to "normalize" and "bulk up" the stool, not for constipation or anything like that. I have IBS-D. I tolerate Citrucel better than other fibers (less gas and bloating), but several onsite have had good results with Metamucil or Benefiber.
