Blood?

Since c-diff is a disease of the "lower half", so to speak, we find that many of our members cannot refrain from discussing what comes out the bottom end. If you must do it, please do it here.

Blood?

Postby Mmm » Mon Jun 18, 2018 9:32 am

So I was dx immediatly from a stool sample (lab called docs) two weeks ago. Still on vanco. Doc ordered 30 days..we are headed out of the country in 1 week. My question is this. Is it normal for the stool to change blackish? It this blood from the damage to the intestines? And my poo will go from a mushy formed to later in the day piles. Thankfully no more water!

I feel like I’m making progress but ugh. See the doc tomorrow. Any help is appreciated.

Black is not really normal unless you are taking a product with bismuth like Pepto Bismol or eating something dark, like blackberries. I would mention it to your doctor. It is easy to do a stool test to check for blood if that is what you are worried about.

I agree with Beth. I would get black stools checked out.

I agree as well, black has to be checked if your not taking anything except vanco.
That's a very unusual time to be on vanco for a first diagnosis of c.diff.
10 to 14 days is normal for first occurence so check the Drs reason.
If someone relapses then a longer taper course might be used but even then 30 days on a full strength course is not normal.
Dont forget that even vanco causes gut flora damage so more is not always best.
You need your gut flora to recover and finish the "cure" by mopping up any remaining spores.

I should add I am suffering from chronic Lyme and was on multiple abx - one also being an intramuscular injection. My doc used to be a geriatrician and feels this is the best length of vanco. I will eventually have to go back on abx however not the oral route or my health will deteriorate again.

You should definitely ask to be properly investigated , black stool is NEVER normal unless you are taking Iron tabletes or infusions or Pepto bismol.

With your combination of illness a geriatrician (a Dr specialising in elderly patients) is not the best Dr!
I would want to involve a good infectious disease Dr who is better trained in antibiotic uses.
Antibiotic shots definitely cause c.diff so dont assume they are safer, they are not.
