Interesting theory in a new American Journal of Gastroenterology paper: The emergence of C Diff "super-strains" has meant that vancomycin (Vancocin) can no longer be considered more effective than metronidazole (Flagyl) as a treatment protocol. In other words, with a new strain, you're just as likely to relapse taking vancomycin as you are taking Flagyl. Cheery.
