Off to Mexico again

Postby Nancy1 » Tue Jul 18, 2006 12:38 pm

I'm going to Veracruz, Mexico, tomorrow, to see my grandkids. Finally I get to see the new baby, born in March! My infectious disease doc said I had to stay away for 3-4 months after his birth, so I don't give cdiff to him or to his mom (who had a C-section). I'm more scared about going there than usual, because I've now been off of vanco for 30 days, and I really don't want to relapse or have a reoccurrence there. (Or anywhere!) So I will be very careful, and will take vanco with me just in case. I may take vanco along whenever I go anywhere the rest of my life!

Wow I didnt know you've been off the Vanco. How are you doing? Ive been off the Vanco for 50 days and the Xifaxan 30 (tomorrow). Everyday is different though. I still get real scared at times. I have a scope on the 24th. Kinda anxious to see what he sees. I hope you can continue to be off it. Enjoy your visit with you grandchildren! and you children.

Nancy and Nicole
I think it's safe to say that you've beaten this thing, but i understand your fears. I did not post my recovery until 6 months later.
Nancy enjoy the trip and Mexico, perhaps you can show me some pictures of the trip of your sorroundings.
Happy for both of you!
It's amazing how many people you could be friends with if only they'd make the first approach.

Thanks Marcia I really hope it is gone also, although I was experiencing more pain now even on right side. I think it left me with colitis. Hopefully after the scope the doc will know exactly what it is and treat it.

Thanks, Nichole and Marcia, for your good wishes. Nichole, I've certainly had more pain since I've been off vanco (mostly gas pains, I think, because Gas-X usually helps), but as long as it's not D, I'm happy. Marcia, I really really hope you're right, that I've beaten this beast (and that Nichole has too)!! But I don't want to assume that I've won yet, so I don't jinx it, if that makes any sense... So I understand your not wanting to post your recovery for 6 months.

I feel the same way. Scared to post a success story just yet. I have my scope done MOnday so I will try and post sometime Monday and let you all know how it goes and what they find out. I want to know why only at night I get so bloated and gas pains.

I had a great time in Mexico, even though it rained bushels every day. The new baby is sooo sweet, and my older grandson is more fun all the time. For his 3rd birthday there were lots of people and 3 pinatas.

I was very careful there and my cdiff was fine until yesterday, when we had lots of airplane problems getting home (it took 20 hours). I ended up eating in some small joints in Mexican airports and today things are a bit loose. I hope it's just a small problem and not more cdiff coming! It's day 37 off vanco today.

Nichole, I'm so glad that your scope went well. It surely sounds like you beat the beast! Hurray!

Thanks Nancy1

I am still having cramps after the scope but other than that im fine. My biopsies were normal too.
Im sure its just the food you ate. That happened to my quite a few times but went away in time. Is this the longest youve gone off Vanco?

Nichole,
I hope your cramps are better soon. I'm about the same today, so I figure, if it's not getting worse, it's probably okay. This is the longest by far that I've been off vanco -- the next longest was only 5 days.

ok I now got diareah, so I took some imodium. I thought id try that since ive never taken it before. I called my sister(she works in the endoscopy center) she says that meds that cleans out my colon is still with me a bit. So I guess I'll watch and wait, but the cramps get so horendous at times. I will also be starting Lotronex tomorrow?.

Nichole,
Good luck with the Lotronex, and with the cramps. I had some scary D last night, the first since I've been off vanco this time. I took Pepto plus more Culturelle and Floraster. No more so far this morning. This is good, because I have to spend most of today at the office of a specialist in dermatology, having Mohs surgery on more basal cell carcinomas. Having D in the midst of surgery would not be fun. Fingers crossed!
